I’m not sure which is more impressive. First we find out that Serena Williams won the Australian Open while she was somewhere in the neighborhood of 5-6 weeks pregnant. Next we find out that Serena Williams didn’t really want that news to get out. But the latest news may very well have Serena beat. It turns out that Gal Gadot might actually be a superhero in real life. The Wonder Woman star is reported to have worked on the reshoots for the film while 5 months pregnant. According to /film
It’s rare that a pregnant actress will have to go through a huge amount of physical strain during their movie – unless they’re the star of the first female-led superhero movie in the modern era. Because Gadot’s bump was already pretty prominent, there was no way to hide it behind a shield or other camera trickery. So, according to Entertainment Weekly, costumers cut a triangle from the front of her armor, replacing it with a bright green cloth that would allow the special effects department to edit it in post-production. Gadot said:
“On close-up I looked very much like Wonder Woman. On wide shots I looked very funny, like Wonder Woman pregnant with Kermit the Frog.”
Wonder Woman producer Chuck Roven was impressed by Gadot’s work ethic especially when she was pregnant. He recounted seeing her – and her Kermit baby bump – in action: “Part of what we were doing was augmenting some of the final action piece. She couldn’t do a huge amount of physical activity but she was being aggressive. She still had to be fierce. That was special. I’ve been doing this for awhile but I’ve never that had that experience before.”
We’ve been hearing all along that this is the year of women in film. How about this is the year of women, period? I think I’m just going to take a break for at least the next 365 days and let my wife do all the work.
