Why is everyone going bonkers this week trying to figure out who Sylvester Stallone is playing in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2? I mean I get that the man’s a legend but wouldn’t it be more fun to just wait for the movie to find out? And it’s not like he’s going to get an hour of screen time folks. Put a lid on it will ya? Is this because we know about Kurt Russell’s character? Does the fact that Russell is playing Ego mean that we’re now supposed to know what Stallone’s role is? I don’t get it.
But just in case you guys want to know, all outlets are saying Stallone will be playing Starhawk. Starhawk is one of the founding Guardians of the Galaxy from the comics. In comic books, Starhawk is the son of modern-day heroes Quasar and Kismet – and there as been wide speculation that Elizbaeth Debicki’s Guardians Vol. 2 character Ayesha is based in part on Kismet.
Writer/director James Gunn has stated that Stallone and Russell are both “a big part of the MCU now,” and that Guardians Vol. 2 wouldn’t be their only time appearing in the MCU. Gunn also stated that Smallville alum Michael Rosenbaum’s character, also unrevealed, “sort of works in tandem” to Stallone’s character.
Well now we know. Isn’t that amazing? Can we please go back to our days now? Thanks.
P.S. if only Stallone came out as Rambo in GOTG 2 I would absolutely go nuts in the theater. Can you even imagine how awesome that would be? He just rolls up off the ship, shirtless and just starts going nuts with his machine gun and knife. We can all dream.
