Breaking Bad will go down as one of the most celebrated television shows of all-time. However, like all shows, it had to start somewhere. In fact if you were to take a look at any show from seasons 3 through 5 and then watch the pilot you’d probably laugh. However, at the same time you’ll also realize that the pilot was pretty genius because it did one hell of a job of setting up the entire show.
This video looks at how the structure of the pilot episode sets up everything the audience needs to know about the series. The video was created by the man at the Youtube Channel “Lessons from the Screenplay.” This guy has almost 350.000 subscribers and knows what he’s talking about when it comes to the structure of shows and movies. Here’s a full description of the channel:
With Lessons from the Screenplay, I make videos that analyze movie scripts to examine exactly how and why they are so good at telling their stories. Part educational series and part love letter to awesome films, Lessons from the Screenplay aims to be a fun way to learn more about your favorite films and help us all become better storytellers.
