When you’re on your way to work it’s pretty routine. I remember my days of commuting in New York City and for the most part I had my earbuds on, listened to my music and pretty much ignored everything in front of me. On occasion I’d see something out of the ordinary and it would be interesting fodder for my co-workers but that’s about it. However, I can safely say that if I were walking around the subway station and saw someone like John Legend playing piano with all the street performers, I’d stop for longer than usual.
That’s exactly what happened in London today at St. Pancras station in London. There’s a public piano there and Legend, who just arrived in London, decided to give all the fans a special treat on their way to work.
Legend sang a couple of his biggest hits, including “Ordinary People,” “All of Me” and “Surefire,” as he played the ivory keys, all in celebration of International Piano Day. He also snuck in a quick promotion for his new album, Darkness and Light, as well his tour. Before taking over the piano, Legend teased on Twitter, “Arriving at London @StPancrasInt on @EurostarUK. Do they still have that piano there?”
