I had never seen nor heard about the show Insane Pools until last night. There’s a very simple explanation for this: it’s on Animal Planet. While this isn’t the first time (nor the last) that a network that’s supposed to be about one thing will feature a program about another I’m still a little miffed here. Come on. Pools on Animal Planet? The concept of the show is quite simple: You won’t believe your eyes when you see the elaborate, luxurious pools that come out of the creative minds of Lucas Congdon and his team.
It’s a simple concept and frankly I love it. It reminds me of the days when I used to watch House Hunters on HDTV. With shows like this you don’t even have to think. You just stare in awe. It’s like when Lifestyle of the Rich and Famous used to be on television. The show would turn you into a zombie. That’s how I feel about Insane Pools. It’s a half an hour escape to a world you’ll probably never have but it’s fun to watch nonetheless.
But I’d like to go back to the networks for a moment. I think we all know that channels like The History Channel, The Learning Channel, and The Discovery Channel aren’t about history, learning, or discovery anymore, but I wouldn’t mind at least seeing some kind of gravitation towards a central topic here. Is that too much to ask?
Insane Pools needs to be on HDTV and it’s that simple. Still though, it’s worth a watch and two new episodes are coming on tonight.
