‘That Guy’ Actor of the Week: Timothy Spall

‘That Guy’ Actor of the Week: Timothy Spall

You’ve seen Timothy Spall a million times but do you actually know the man’s name?  I for one did not hence why I’ve selected him as our most recent “That Guy” actor.    Those of you reading this probably recognize Spall from the Harry Potter films.  Spall began working the Harry Potter movies back in 2004 when he played Peter Pettigrew in Harry Potter and the Prison of Azkaban.  He then went on to perform in every Harry Potter movie after as Pettigrew and Wormtail.    But Timothy Spall is no spring chicken when it comes to the big screen.  At the age of 60, Spall’s got a solid film and TV resumé under his belt that includes 137 credits.

His career dates all the way back to 1978 spanning a ton of film and British TV.  I personally never got wind of Timothy Spall until I saw the movie Rockstar which came out in 2002.  He played Mats, the band Steel Dragon’s road manager.  There was just something about him that I liked.  He had this presence and voice that was extremely believable.  He reminded me of the type of person people can count on.  Right after Rockstar he got a part in Vanilla Sky as Thomas Tipp, another trustworthy type of character.  If was after these two films that I think his career really took off.   He was in another 10 or so films before landing the Potter role and the rest as they say, is history.

So here’s to you Timothy Spall.  I appreciate all your fine work and look forward to more roles.    Enjoy this Timothy Spall appreciation video
