Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 hasn’t even been released yet but news of a 3rd installment has already been confirmed by director James Gunn. Fans who have been wondering about the film’s future can now sleep better knowing that a 3rd movie will happen “no matter what.” Here’s what Gunn had to say regarding the movie:
“There will be a ‘Guardians 3,’ that’s for sure. We’re trying to figure it out,” Gunn revealed. “I’m trying to figure out what I want to do really, that’s all it is. I got to figure out where I want to be, what I want to spend the next three years of my life doing. You know, I’m going to make another big movie; is it the Guardians or something else? I’m just going to figure it out over the next couple of weeks.”
This is an interesting quote because Gunn isn’t necessarily saying he’ll be attached to the movie. With regard to other cast members keeping their roles, we don’t have any information on that yet. While Gunn’s involvement isn’t 100% certain it’s better than his sentiment back in August of 2016 where he made the following quote when asked if he’d be involved in a Guardians of the Galaxy 3, “There are no real plans, and I haven’t made up my mind yet what I’m doing next.” For now fans can focus on Vol 2.
Written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, and franchise newcomer, Kurt Russell, who plays Star-Lord’s father — Ego, the Living Planet. “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” arrives in theaters May 5.
