Portia Woodman is Officially the Marshawn Lynch of Rugby

There’s a reason that Marshawn Lynch was called “beast mode.”  Other than the fact he coined the phrase, Lynch was one of the toughest NFL running backs of all-time.  While there are many “bruiser” running backs, not many were as tenacious and hard hitting as Marshawn Lynch.   Many of today’s running backs are cutback runners or speed runners.  There aren’t as many “plow your way through an entire team” type guys.

And to be honest I haven’t seen any “plow through an entire team” players that impressed me in any sport in any league since Marshawn Lynch retired.  That is, until I just saw this highlight video.  This is Portia Woodman. She is a New Zealand rugby union player. She is currently a member of the New Zealand Women’s Sevens team. Woodman comes from a sporting background with both her father, Kawhena, and her uncle, Fred Woodman being former All Blacks in Rugby.  Her aunt Te Aroha Keenan is a former Silver Fern. Of Māori descent, Woodman affiliates to the Ngāpuhi iwi.

While I don’t think we’ll ever see another Marshawn Lynch in football, we’ve 100% found our “beast mode” in Rugby.  Woodman is an absolute dynamo.
