As you guys know, I’m not a huge fan of announcing pregnancies but this is The Captain we’re talking about. Earlier on The Players Tribune Jeter’s wife Hannah and former Sports Illustrated model, made the announcement. “Now, pregnant with our first child, Derek and I are looking to the future,” she said. “He already has a name in mind – he’s set on it. (We’ll see.) He’ll say when he calls me during the day: ‘So, how are you and so-and-so doing?’ ‘That’s not the name yet, sweetie.’ Whatever her name is, I know she’ll run circles around him.”
I guess they’re having a girl then. It’s amazing how quickly Derek Jeter settled down. He was far and away MLB’s best bachelor in the history of the game. The best part about his reputation is that it was never tarnished. No matter how many women he’d been with he was respected because he was single. He was never married thus he never cheated. Jeter was the Leonardo DiCaprio of major league baseball. But in the span of literally two years he went from eligible bachelor to loving husband, and now he’s gonna be a dad.
All I can say to Derek is this: “Good for you buddy.” Seriously, I’m happy for the guy. Parenthood is one of the best things in life and when you don’t have financial concerns, as the Jeter’s won’t, it takes a ton of pressure off. It’ll be interesting to see how a Jeter offspring will turn out.
Once again, congrats to The Captain. Let’s hope he can be as good a father as he was a ballplayer.
