First things first. Before we get into Seth Myers tirade on speaker Paul Ryan last night, let’s talk about what dabbing is. It’s not the kind of dabbing where you take a towel and slowly put a teeny tiny bit of water on it and then pat oh so gently to get stains out. Dabbing is the newest dance move. Here’s the definition: The dab is a dance move in which the dancer simultaneously drops the head while raising an arm and the elbow in a gesture that has been noted to resemble sneezing. Dab has been made popular by NFL quarterback Cam Newton. Anyway Paul Ryan took a bit of a ribbing the other day when he claimed to know what a dab was even though this guy really doesn’t. According to Kansas.com
House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., took some ribbing on social media for appearing confused when Cal Marshall struck a “dab” pose during the swearing-in ceremony of his father, Rep. Roger Marshall, R-Great Bend. Ryan paused and asked if Cal was sneezing. Ryan joked about he incident during a CNN town hall last week. “I actually do know what a dab is,” he said. But he contended that Cal “wasn’t doing a dab” — at least not the way Carolina Panther quarterback Cam Newton does it. “It looked a little strange to me,” Ryan said.
Myers decided to put this all to bed in his monologue last night. While many of us are up nights worrying about healthcare, getting a job, and the impending administration, we really need to focus on the fact that Paul Ryan just can’t dab. It’s that simple.
