Just like everyone else in America, Stephen Colbert is ready for the 2016 election to be over, but until we elect our next president in just under two weeks, Colbert is going to use all the time he has on The Late Show to talk about Donald Trump. Last night on the late night talk show, Colbert touched upon Trump’s recent interview with George Stephanopoulos, in which the Republican presidential candidate said that he shouldn’t be criticized for taking a day off from campaigning to open his new hotel, which is only one mile away from the White House. When defending his actions, Trump told Stephanopoulos that he thought he was “entitled to it.”
“‘I think I’m entitled to it,’ which is also the motto on the Trump family crest,” Colbert joked, before saying that it’s also Trump’s “pick up line at bars.”
But while Colbert was critical of Trump’s explanation during that interview with George Stephanopoulos, he did come to the GOP nominee’s defense over the recent incident involving Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. As Colbert explained (and as many people already know at this point), a protester, who obviously dislikes Trump very much, smashed the candidate’s star with a sledgehammer and then posted the video of his actions online.
“Now a lot of people like that the guy did this,” Colbert said. “But come on. This is the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and as a TV star, Donald Trump has earned the right to have his name urinated on by a guy in a Spider-Man costume. Alright? That’s sacred.”
