Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez can really do it all. She can act, dance, box, and, as she proved last night on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, rap.
The CW actress stopped by the late night talk show to promote her new film, Deepwater Horizon, which also stars Mark Wahlberg, Kate Hudson, and Teen Wolf‘s Dylan O’Brien and hits theaters this Friday. However, the topic of her and Fallon’s conversation quickly switched from acting to rapping after he mentioned the word “Cutz,” which, as it turns out, used to be Rodriguez’s alter ego of sorts back in college.
“We would write…foolishly,” Rodriguez said about her and her fellow rapping friend, who they called “Lady Fury.” “And then, when we were at college parties, and they were like, ‘Oh rap!’, we’d be like ‘Oh yeah, right off the dome.’ Not off the dome, but definitely…we were dropping those rhymes all over NYU.”
Of course, that story led to Fallon pulling out a microphone so that Rodriguez could channel Cutz right then and there on The Tonight Show stage, proving her rapping abilities. After The Roots gave the Jane the Virgin star a beat, she went right into Nikki Minaj’s “Super Bass,” and she didn’t miss a word, even getting bleeped out by NBC’s censors for cursing.
