Quantico Season Finale Review: Say “Yes”

At long last, it’s graduation for the cadets at Quantico, and it’s come just in time for the Quantico season finale. Let’s jump right in and see what happened in the last episode before the summer hiatus, titled “Yes.”

Just as an FYI, I’m not going to talk much about the actual events of the episode since this is the finale, so this review will be more of just thoughts on the episode in general.

The episode opens with a montage of Liam’s role in the events of the season from the moment that the cadets entered Quantico all the way up to the bombing. Knowing as we do now that he was the mastermind behind everything, it’s actually pretty incredible that he was able to accomplish everything that he did. In particular, planting Alex in the rubble was a stroke of genius. I have no way of knowing for sure if the writers had planned for him to be the terrorist from the beginning, but, either way, they did a perfect job of tying him into everything.

At the academy, everyone is getting ready for graduation and field work. Before that happens, though, everyone will get to experience one final bash to celebrate the accomplishment. At the party, tensions begin to rise based on some reveals that come out (particular between Alex and Ryan), and it helps to heighten the realization that so much has changed for each of these characters over the course of the season. The removal of the academy storyline through graduation marks a pretty big moment for Quantico, and I’ll admit that the sight of all of the dorm rooms empty is pretty striking. The commencement speech at the ceremony is very well-written, and it plays perfectly in conjunction with the events in the future with which it is intercut.

In the future, Miranda is missing now that O’Conner has had his way with her, and he heads back to the office to lead a search for her. Ryan manages to find a secret camera in her apartment, though, and it tells him that, at the very least, someone has been watching her for a while. After hearing this news, the rest of the team goes into full-investigation mode now that they know Miranda couldn’t have been the one behind anything.

Everything progresses to a conclusion, and the ending is wonderfully satisfying. As you can imagine, not everyone makes it out of “Yes” alive, and the final two acts of the episode provide some great emotional moments. As any proper season finale should do, “Yes” also sets up some threads to follow next year while doing a very good job at wrapping up the major stories of the first twenty-two episodes. The result is absolutely the best episode of Quantico in weeks, and it, thankfully, left me extremely excited about what can possibly come this fall. I actually can’t believe that I’m saying it, but Quantico, in a single episode, has become one of my most-anticipated returning shows, and I know that I’ll be tuning back in in a few months.
