Jimmy Kimmel - Emmys

Could we see Emmy winners reading out meant tweets at this year’s ceremony? Now that ABC has officially announced that Jimmy Kimmel will be hosting the 2016 Emmy Awards, which air Sunday, Sept. 18, on the network, it’s certainly a possibility.

Although Kimmel receiving the hosting gig is not a major surprise, as it had been rumored and reported on since last month that ABC was eyeing him for the position, the network did not officially confirm the news until Monday.

“Jimmy Kimmel is the consummate showman,” said Channing Dungey, ABC’s new president of entertainment, in a statement. “With Kimmel at the helm, expect to be at the edge of your seat for a bigger, bolder, and better-than-ever Emmy event.”

“I am excited to be hosting the Emmys again,” Kimmel said. “I have a feeling I’m going to be great.”

This will year will be the second time that the Jimmy Kimmel Live host will lead the telecast. He previously hosted the Emmys back in 2012, which was the last time that ABC aired the event.

In addition to Kimmel being officially announced as host, the Television Academy also confirmed that the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which are always handed out the weekend before the Emmys, will take place over two nights this year. The awards will be presented on Saturday, Sept. 10, and the following night, Sunday, Sept. 11.

Nominations for the 2016 Emmy Awards will  be announced on Thursday, July 14.
