I have to say that this was one of my favorite episodes of Limitless so far. It addressed all of the issues I have pointed out, which I’ll go into later in, and still furthered the story of Brian and the NZT.
Continuing from the previous week’s episode when Brian was kidnapped by the CIA, we went full-blown like a steam engine from there in “When Pirates Pirate Pirates.” Rebecca’s boss Naz immediately went to Washington, where she wanted the committee she met with to launch a full-blown investigation into this. She wanted everything concerning this “memo” that supposedly gave Brian permission to work with the CIA and said if she did not get that, she would resign and expose the black ops project. She was out for blood!
Sitting back at the office, Brian and Mike were seen conversing while they shot candy into Brian’s mouth followed by an NZT pill. They heare a commotion in the hall, and everyone went to see what was going on. It was Naz being dragged out in handcuffs! Brian stole her replacement’s phone and discovered that she was being held on suspicion of treason after making payments to a terrorist. Brian and Rebecca didn’t think that she did it, until they saw Naz’s daughter at her house; she told them that i was true. Apparently, Naz’s niece was on a Peace Corps mission which got overtaken by pirates. Hearing about one too many failed rescue missions, Naz contacted Felix Durmaz, who was a terrorist but who could also get back her niece. Felix finally called Naz’s house only to say that the first set of pirates had just been overtaken by a different set of pirates. Brian, with the help of NZT and a ham radio, discovered the name of the ship and that the ship had a former captain living right here in the city. Shocking, I know! After getting kidnapped by his gang, Brian made a deal in that Brian would get the girl back if he could get a rare, one-of-a-kind pinball machine for the ex-captain, who was a collector. In the end, Naz’s niece came home!
In the meantime, Rebecca had Boyle tell Naz’s replacement that he got a copy of Brian’s true medical file. This was both true and false. While it was true that Naz had falsified the record to keep Brian in the city, the records he gave to the new guy were not the correct ones either. Rebecca figured out that the only way to lure out the person who signed that form was to use bait (aka Brian’s records), so she had Boyle have the replacement set up a meeting in Washington. It was the man who told Rebecca he was helping Naz get out- Paulson. In the end, Brian had Senator Morra via Sands release the information that it was Paulson’s signature on that form.
Like I said, I actually really enjoyed this episode of Limitless. It dealt with the plot line from the last episode of who signed that form, and it developed not only the character of Naz but also Boyle and Mike. It wasn’t just in passing either; it was in-depth! I couldn’t have asked for more in an episode.
Well, that’s not technically true. When Brian and Rebecca were at Naz’s apartment, and she brought in all of the equipment he requested to help locate the ship, she said he’d never be able to get it down without the NZT. He said he had his own secret stash. She asked from where, but when we came back from the commercial break, everyone was already helping to set up the ham radio, and Brian was learning the languages. What I wouldn’t give to have heard the end of that conversation. Maybe next time….
