This time of the year is bittersweet for an avid TV watcher. Springtime brings us nice weather, but it also when the television season comes to an end. The 2014-2015 TV season was one of the best and brought fans many surprises along the way. We here at TVOvermind would like to honor some of our favorite shows in various categories that you will not necessarily find at the Emmys or the Golden Globe Awards. Check out who we thought was the cutest couple and the best looking cast of the 2014-2015 TV season. We will be showcasing other categories in the weeks to come, so be sure to check out the site often.
Cutest Reality Showmance: Nicole and Hayden, Big Brother 16
If you are going to be spending your summer locked in a house with no contact with the outside world, chances are you are going to develop some pretty strong relationships with the people you are living with at the Big Brother house. This is what happened to Nicole and Hayden who appeared on the 16th cycle of the summer reality show. This showmance turned into an actual romance as the two are still very much a couple according to Nicole’s Facebook page.
Cutest Couple: Adam Ruzek and Kim Burgess, Chicago P.D.
This season was quite an interesting one for all of the characters on Chicago P.D., including Adam Ruzek and Kim Burgess. The two became a couple at the conclusion of Season 1 and were able to power through the daily grind of the job that included a death of a co-worker and Burgess being held hostage in an abandoned warehouse. Ruzek finally decided to put a ring on it on the Season 2 finale.
Actors That Need to Grow Up: Julianna Margulies and Archie Panjabi, The Good Wife
We all have someone we do not like in the workplace. Apparently, this also holds true on the set of The Good Wife. It was rumored that Julianna Margulies and Archie Panjabi did not get along for the last several seasons, as the two have not shared a scene together in quite some time. In the Season 6 finale, Margulies and Panjabi filmed the scene between their characters separately. Sometimes people need to grow up and learn to work together.
Best Looking Cast: The Cast of Arrow
The CW Network generally skews to a younger audience. This also holds true to the cast of characters on their shows. The cast of Arrow is by far the best looking. After seeing pictures of Stephen Amell, David Ramsey, Katie Cassidy, Emily Bett Rickards, Willa Holland, and Colton Hayes, how can you disagree?!
Death We Were Most Happy About: Victoria Grayson, Revenge
The reason fans were so happy that Victoria Grayson met her maker is merely based on the fact that she was so evil, and we all wanted to see Emily get the revenge she was looking for during the four seasons of Revenge. Before she actually died, Victoria decided to fake her own death and pin it on her arch-enemy Emily. Luckily, Emily got the last laugh in the series finale when Victoria was shot, and she was able to live happily ever after with Jack.
Death We Were Most Upset About: Derek Shepherd, Grey’s Anatomy
I have addressed this topic several times over the last few weeks, but I am still upset over the death of neurosurgeon Derek Shepherd that occurred towards the end of the 11th season of Grey’s Anatomy. I think the reason myself and so many fans were saddened by the death was because Derek was such a beloved character on series and news of him dying had not leaked online.
Pregnancy We Were Most Shocked About: Dr. Mindy Lahiri, The Mindy Project
The Mindy Project gives its fans what they want. One of those things was for Mindy and Danny to get together, which happened at the conclusion of the second season. Other series like Castle or Bones will take years before the main characters become a couple. The FOX (now Hulu) series pushed the envelop even further when Mindy announced that she was with child halfway through Season 3.
Pregnancy We Were Least Shocked About: Dr. Temperance Brennan, Bones
It was revealed that Emily Deschanel was pregnant with her second child in December of 2014. Hart Hanson, the creator of Bones, announced that, once again, Deschanel’s pregnancy would be incorporated into the drama. It was not until recently that the episode aired where Dr. Brennan announced she was having a baby.
The Show We Were Most Surprised Got Cancelled: Benched
I was a die hard fan of Happy Endings, so I was very excited that Eliza Coupe would be returning to TV in this USA comedy. The series had a great cast, which included Jay Harrington and Oscar Nunez. It was a hilarious comedy with sharp writing and an interesting plot. Unfortunately, USA did not think so and axed the series after its 12-episode run.
The Show We Knew Would Get Cancelled: State of Affairs
NBC had a rough year, cancelling all of its first season series with the exclusion of the surprisingly funny The Mysteries of Laura. One of the shows that did not survive for a second season was State of Affairs. The series looked somewhat promising, but viewers have lost interest in Katherine Heigl after she vacated her role on Grey’s Anatomy. Plus, she has been described as difficult to work with on the set of many movies and TV shows.
