Big Brother 14 Week 3/Week 1 Review – Kill Me Now…

Big Brother 14 Mike BoogieRemember when Big Brother used to be exciting and lived up to their motto of ‘Expect the Unexpected?’ Well, after tonight’s little switcheroo, I don’t see the Big Brother that I revolved my entire summer around returning anytime soon, or rather my excitement for said show. Now, Big Brother’s ominous motto of ‘Expect the Unexpected’ has become a joke of itself… and not a funny one that. But you are not here to read my whining. So let’s get to tonight’s “gamechanging” episode, and I use gamechanging lightly.

As the night began, the HGs were running around reacting to Shane’s decision to put Frank on the block instead of Danielle or one of Mike Boogie’s lesser liked players, like Ian. The move sent Mike into ass-kicking mode, but Frank told his mentor to chill out and trust Shane’s plan of getting Joe out the house, despite Frank actually being the number one target to be voted out. Mike asked Britney what the hell happened with their deal and Britney recounted Ian’s response concerning Shane’s safety next week. Frank, again, begged for Mike not to blow his lid and go after Ian for his mishap.

Meanwhile, Janelle gloated to Joe and Wil about their change of luck (sans Joe still being on the block) and how she’s pretty much saved Wil’s ass from day one. Or at least that’s how Wil saw it, which led him to he being highly pissed at his mentor and Big Brother bestie. After hearing from Wil that he’s done obeying Janelle’s orders, Joe and Ashley pleaded for the Blonde Bombshell to try to rectify the situation before Wil threw his vote to Frank. Putting on an apology and her best tears to boot (since she had not too long claimed that she wouldn’t even cry at a funeral), Janelle finally spoke with Wil, who saw clear through her plan, but played along for his own amusement.

Elsewhere, Frank and Mike tried to get Dan and Danielle (who would have been the swing vote in the house) to use her unofficial power on Frank in exchange for safety with Boogie’s group next week. Despite the deal, Danielle later told Dan that she’s gonna stick with Shane’s crew. Dan, being the little manipulator he can be at times, told Danielle to let the dream of being with Shane go, because he (Dan) wasn’t going to lose $100,000 because of a wannabe fling. Ouch. I would so hate to be on one of Dan’s teams, especially as a kid no less.

Now we are back to the live show where Julie Chen teased the American Choice results as if the audience were a child and she was the adult with a bag full of candy. After learning that Frank is actually the son of wrestling legend Sid Vicious and Julie’s weekly (and awkwardly) boring Q&A session, the moment of truth had come. It was now time to reveal whether the Coaches would join the game or not, and where my sanity started to unravel.

Julie revealed to the HGs that America had voted on whether the Coaches should get the chance to retire their coaching hats and join the Big Brother game as full-fledged players. As this news hit, there was little to no reaction from the HGs, but the Coaches all had a somewhat ‘knowing’ look on their faces, which could be my paranoia going into overdrive, but I heavily doubt it. Julie then told the group that if the Coaches chose to continue their roles as mentors, then Eviction night would go as planned, but some evicted HGs would be given the chance to return to the game next week to even out the numbers. However, if the Coaches wanted to toss their mentor hats to the side for good, then there would be no Eviction and Big Brother 14 would be reset at that very moment, resulting in everyone competing in the HOH challenge. Ugh…

All the Coaches had to do was press a reset button in the Diary Room to signify their response, but it would take only one person to press the button for the Big Brother reset to be instated. Britney was called in the DR first and after moments of hesitation, she pressed the button. Dan and Janelle gleefully pressed the button as well, but it was Mike Boogie, Mr. Chilltown himself, who decided not to press the button. Damn, should I go shake this man’s hand for being honest and honorable for once in Big Brother?

Some Tweets thought that Mike not pressing the button was a strategic move, but strategic for what? No one will know who pressed the button unless they talk about it later on, and even then it wouldn’t matter to his gameplay down the line. Personally, I think Boogie was just saying that he was content on being a mentor and probably hoped that the game would end earlier than usual so he could get home to his family. Although, he probably knew Janelle and Dan would’ve pressed the button anyway and thought him doing the same would be redundant. In the end, Mike’s refusal to not press the Big Brother reset button was the only surprise (and maybe the last) that has come from Big Brother so far this year. Sadness.

So the HOH competition is still going on now, with Wil, Janelle, Ian, Britney, Danielle, and Shane still in contention. But a part of me doesn’t even care anymore. If the 8 newbies manage to band together and toss out the 4 Vets in the next few weeks, my love for the show will be restored to full capacity. Until then, I will only expect the expected until this season of Big Brother comes to an end.
