College is often remembered as a time of late-night adventures, questionable decisions, questionable cooking skills, and experiences that somehow become funnier with every passing year. Between lectures, exams, dorm-room antics, and the occasional attempt to look like a responsible adult, students can get themselves into some truly unforgettable situations.
And not all of them are exactly the kind you’d proudly share at a family dinner. Yes, ask the people sharing their college confessions on the X page collegefessing, who are opening the door to stories they might have kept quiet about for years.

I was screen-sharing my laptop during a presentation when RateMyProfessors popped up in my tabs. My prof’s page was open with a 2.1/5 stars, “avoid at all costs,” “smells like old coffee.” He froze, stared at the screen for a solid 10 seconds, then quietly said “interesting feedback” and changed the slide like nothing happened. Class was silent the rest of the hour.

Went to an epic costume party at Providence College…
4 guys were dressed as Ninja Turtles and later on a girl they did not know showed up dressed as April O’Neill. They proceeded to follow her everywhere, bringing her beers, defending her honor and asking her to order pizzas (which she eventually did). LATER, a guy dressed up as Shredder shows up! They proceed to have a totally unscripted mock battle in the kitchen that gets out of hand very quickly. Table, cabinets and chairs are broken. All characters involved promptly vacate the scene and the people who threw the party are just left confused as hell. Amazing.
One of the few memories of College, but my favorite.

College is often one of the most significant periods of self-discovery, as it gives young adults their first real opportunity to explore life independently. As Psychology Today explains, students are suddenly responsible for managing their schedules, finances, education, relationships, and everyday decisions with much less parental supervision.
This freedom allows them to discover their strengths, recognize their limitations, and work out what matters most to them. At the same time, being surrounded by people with different backgrounds and beliefs exposes them to new perspectives that may challenge everything they previously thought they knew.
Between trying unfamiliar activities, exploring different interests, and forming new friendships, students get plenty of opportunities to figure out what kind of people they want to become.

I finally have to admit it… I’ve been secretly in love with my roommate’s girlfriend for months. Every time she visits our dorm, I pretend to study while stealing glances, replaying her laugh in my head, feeling guilty as hell but unable to stop. The worst part? Last weekend when he was out, we talked for hours alone, and I almost confessed everything. I know it’s wrong, but my heart won’t listen. God, forgive me.

Me and my roommate, who’s actually a close friend of mine, are both aiming for med school. He’s always been better than me academically, sitting around a 3.95 GPA, super disciplined, always ahead. Last fall during final exam week in early December, I knew he kept everything on his iPad all his notes, summaries, even exam prep and he never really shared them with anyone. I had memorized his password without him knowing, and one day while he was out, I went on his iPad and DELETED all of his notes. He ended up LWD’ing 2 of his 6 courses and finishing the semester with around a 3.2 GPA. Since then he’s been really down… honestly depressed. Even this semester, although he’s doing a bit better, he’s still not performing like he used to. I regret what I did every single day. At the time I convinced myself it was “necessary” because of the pressure and competition, but now I just feel sick about it. I don’t know if I should tell him, or just live with it. What would you do?

This period of exploration also gives students room to make mistakes, change their minds, and reconsider the paths they initially thought they wanted to follow. Choosing a major, joining a club, developing new friendships, or pursuing an unexpected interest can all contribute to a clearer sense of identity.
Psychologist Erik Erikson considered identity formation an important part of human development, emphasizing how young people gradually develop their values and sense of self through exploration.
College can therefore become much more than a place to earn a degree. It is also an environment where people learn to make decisions for themselves, navigate unfamiliar situations, and discover that growing up sometimes involves a few questionable choices along the way.

For 2 years I paid my roommate $2k/month thinking it was my half of a $4k rent. Just saw the lease: total rent was only $2k the whole time. He’s been taking my $2k + the full rent every month & pocketing the extra $2k. I trusted him completely. Gutted. Sorry doesn’t cut it.

That willingness to experiment is also connected to why young adults may be more inclined to take risks. According to Verywell Mind, younger people are often particularly attracted to novelty, excitement, and immediate rewards, partly because the brain’s reward system develops faster than the areas responsible for planning, judgment, and impulse control.
This can make exciting opportunities feel especially appealing, even when the possible consequences deserve more consideration. Whether someone is trying an unfamiliar activity, going on an unexpected adventure, or making a spontaneous decision with friends, the promise of a memorable experience can sometimes outweigh the desire to play it safe.

I sat next to a girl in Intro to Psych for a whole semester who always wore hoodies, baseball caps, and never looked up from her notebook. During freshman year at my dorm, someone kept stealing people’s takeout orders from the hallway. Tensions got insane, notes on doors, passive-aggressive group chats. Turns out it was the RA. He was going through each hallway everyday at 7:30pm to see who had orders left out…He probably consumed like $400 worth of wings and sushi every week. We had set up a ring camera one night and caught him red-handed with my roomates order. He got fired and we all got free pizza from the housing office as hush money.

My girlfriend and I went to different schools, and our Freshman year, she came to visit me one weekend. I lived in an all guys dorm, and there were very strict visitation rules- no girls allowed after 2am. My girlfriend had nowhere else to stay, and we didn’t want to pay for a hotel, so we made a plan to sneak her in. To check into the dorm, you would give your ID to a person at the front desk, who would swipe it and let you in. Any guest would have to leave their ID at the front desk, so it would be very obvious that she was there when she wasn’t supposed to be if she checked in normally.
Now my girlfriend is rather petite, and my friend had a huge suitcase. We ran out of options and plans to checking her in, and desperate times called for desperate measures, so we dropped the suitcase out of my second story window, and checked out. We went around to the side of our building to grab the suitcase. My girlfriend packed herself in the suitcase and I pulled her into the building, checked into the dorm normally, and rolled the suitcase around the corner away from the desk to let my girlfriend out. The kicker–as I walked away from the desk, my RA asked “what’s in the suitcase?”, and I laughed and said “you don’t want to know” like an idiot as I rolled 100+ pounds in this huge suitcase.
We did this a handful of times that year, before making a fake ID for my girlfriend that said she was my sister. Never got caught.

Social influences can make these decisions even more interesting. Friendships and group acceptance become particularly important during young adulthood, meaning people may be more willing to participate in activities they would normally avoid when surrounded by their peers. The desire to fit in, impress friends, or simply avoid feeling left out can affect how someone behaves in a group.
As people gain more life experience, they generally become better at evaluating consequences and regulating their impulses. They also take on additional responsibilities that encourage them to think beyond immediate excitement. This may explain why some decisions that seemed perfectly reasonable during college eventually become the kind of memories people look back on and wonder what they were thinking.

My freshman year I was friends with this cross country runner who was a nice dude but would do insane things while drunk. Someone always had to be a babysitter for him at parties.
One night he hosted a party and got properly drunk. At some point he realized that he missed his team running quota for the week so he snuck out of his own party at 1AM and ran 20 miles around nearby trails to make up for it.
We were puzzled when he returned around 3:30AM and didn’t believe it when he said he was out running but his smartwatch tracked the entire thing. He ran 21 miles at a 6:30 minute per mile pace while completely blacked out. It’s honestly the most amazing physical act I’ve ever witnessed and he has no recollection of it.
Anyways, it’s been 9 years and he’s a doctor with 4 kids now lol.

Craigslist roommate wanted to be the Joker from The Dark Knight but waited until the literal last moment to get a costume. He could not find green hair spray so the folks went to Home Depot and bought dark green spray paint and proceeded to paint his head in his all white bathroom…everything was covered in little green paint droplets and after the night of partying was done he spent maybe an hour or so in the shower trying to wash the paint out. Around 230 he came downstairs where me and my other roommate were playing PS3 and asked us to shave his head for him…we spent the next half hour or so shaving him with a bic razor until his head was shiny green lol.

Academic expectations can introduce another layer of pressure, particularly when students are trying to balance their education with their social lives and newfound independence. Higher Ed Dive explores why some college students bend the rules, pointing to the combination of demanding academic expectations, high-stakes outcomes, and the desire to belong.
Grades, scholarships, internships, and family expectations can make even a single assignment or examination feel incredibly important. When students worry that one poor result could affect their future opportunities, they may start viewing shortcuts as a way to protect themselves from failure.
This does not make academic dishonesty acceptable, but it helps explain why some students feel tempted to take chances they might otherwise avoid.

Okay so basically i worked at a store and there would be families with kids getting toys and sometimes it happened that the parents didn’t have enough money(card declined all that) and sometimes i would pay the gap with my own money and i would sometimes act like the system had a default and i would need to scan everything because the price changed (it really does happen so it wasn’t weird) and so I would scan it again with the employee card to get a discount and I would also skip some articles(the most cheap ones like 1-2$) to make the total lower. I did it like 3 times in 2 years because I hated seeing parents sad and embarassed and the kids disappointed. I did this and also added free goodies and toys. Never got caught and I was actually the best at the register.

I’ve been secretly DJing underground raves under an alias for two years while grinding through med school rotations. It started when a buddy dragged me to a sweaty Chicago warehouse party; I jumped on the decks for one track, mixed a 1998 acid house classic into a new unreleased cut and the 300-person crowd lost it. Now I sneak out after 12 hour shifts, pack my portable rig in my backpack n play 2am sets that sell out in hours. The contrast keeps me sane.

Beyond academic pressure, college is also a major social transition that gives young adults more opportunities to test boundaries. With fewer restrictions than they may have experienced at home, students begin figuring out which rules they consider reasonable, how institutions respond to certain behavior, and where their personal limits lie.
The desire to make friends and feel accepted can sometimes become more important than thinking about the consequences of a particular decision. This is especially true when classmates appear to be doing the same thing, making questionable behavior seem more normal within a particular social circle.
Between trying to keep up with assignments, maintain friendships, and enjoy their independence, students can occasionally find themselves in situations that are considerably more complicated than they anticipated.

Interestingly, many of these experiences remain memorable long after students have packed away their textbooks and moved on to working life. Research discussed by the University of Melbourne Student Union points to the reminiscence bump, a phenomenon in which people tend to recall a disproportionate number of memories from their teens and twenties.
College falls right within this period, when people are experiencing significant changes, forming close relationships, and encountering situations that feel entirely new. Emotionally intense moments, such as first relationships, embarrassing mishaps, personal achievements, heartbreaks, and unexpected adventures, can become particularly memorable because strong emotions help reinforce long-term memories.

Ultimately, college memories often carry meaning beyond the actual events because they are connected to the people students were becoming at the time. Decisions about friendships, relationships, education, and personal interests can influence how someone understands themselves and approaches life years later. Even experiences that seemed insignificant or downright embarrassing at the time can become memorable parts of a person’s personal history.
As people grow older, they may forget individual lectures, examination dates, and entire semesters, but the unusual encounters, unexpected adventures, and questionable decisions can remain surprisingly vivid. Sometimes, the most unforgettable part of getting an education has very little to do with what was written on the syllabus.

College is clearly about much more than lectures, exams, and earning a degree. It’s also a time when people make unexpected friends, learn difficult lessons, test their limits, and occasionally do things they would rather their professors never find out about. Some experiences become treasured memories, while others are probably best left buried somewhere in an old dorm room.
Either way, they often make for some pretty entertaining stories years later. What is the most ridiculous, embarrassing, or unbelievable thing you witnessed or did during your college years? Share your own college confessions in the comments!

I ran into her old playlist on Spotify the other night, still starts with that same Mac DeMarco song we used to blast driving back from the lake at 3 a.m. Hit play and immediately regretted it. Two years gone and I still catch myself thinking “she’d love this” when something funny happens. Saw her new pics last week: new city, new guy’s arm around her, same half-smile. There are a lot of rock climbers who go to my college so climbing campus buildings and hanging out on roofs is pretty common. Well one night a kid made a plan to step it up a notch and haul a keg to the roof of the performing arts building. It’s a real modern looking building with this big pride rock looking thing jutting out from the edge of the roof, a perfect place from which to haul a keg up three stories. Amazingly, they were able to haul the keg up to the roof in no time flat. Well the party gets going and there are like 20 people up on this roof revelling in the success of their keg haul. But the kid who’s whole idea this was, decides this is not enough. So he walks out pride rock and hangs a rope from the point. He then ties into this rope with his harness and proceeds to jump off the building, falling in a graceful arching swing. But just as he does so, campus safety comes rolling around the corner. Imagine there surprise to see a student jumping off a three story building. Well the kid notices them, lowers himself to the ground and just takes off. Now the rest of the party is stranded on the roof, drunk, with a keg, and a lot of explaining to do. Or at least they would have been stranded had they not all been climbers. The ropes come out and the harnesses get donned as teams of two start rappelling off the roof of this building as it’s being surrounded by the cops. The cops were seriously unprepared for this and as they scrambled to locate the rappel point more ropes were tossed down and more students rappelled and escaped into the night. Finally, the cops made it through the building and on to the roof to find one poor remaining sole, one fairly empty keg, and the rope still dangling from pride rock.
Tl;Dr A bunch of rock climbers at my school hauled a keg to the roof of a building and had a party. One kid set up a rope swing and jumped off the roof alerting campus safety and the cops, but luckily everyone was prepared and rappelled off the roof, away from the cops, and into the night.

I once woke up to my roommates disassembling a stop sign in our living room. Apparently they had come across an overturned stop sign as they walked home from the bar and they thought it’d be cool to hang the street signs up in our living room, so they picked up the pole and walked it two blocks back to our apartment. I’m still not sure how they got it up the stairs unseen but eventually they did manage to take the signs off and we spent the rest of the year with SW 16th Street hanging over our tv.

There are a lot but this one is fresh in my mind since there was some other reddit thread that reminded me of this..Freshman year I was on an all guys floor with a shared bathroom, bunch of stalls, showers etc. One night a kid comes running into my room and tells me and my roommate that we HAVE to go and see whats in the bathroom so we oblige. There is a fece in one of the toilets that legit was the size of a half full roll of paper towels. It was massive, like almost over the lip of the toilet. I dont know if it wasnt flushed because the kid just didnt want to or because it was impossible. Anyways, as more kids start to see it one kid says he will pick it up out of the toilet and squeeze it if he gets the right amount of money. So people start pitching in 5 and 10 bucks and a little bit of booze and some beer. By this time there were like 100+ people on our floor from all over the freshman dorms because the build up was like an hour. He finally goes into the bathroom and turns the corner so everyone could see and raises it up and squeezes it. It was disgusting but it was awesome haha. He ended up getting in trouble bc the janitor was pissed obviously. The video was on youtube for a while but no longer.

I was driving with a friend to a party at night. We got kinda lost and found ourselves on some dark country road, tall grass on either side boxing us in. Ahead of us, barely visible in the headlights, was some kind of red melon-sized object in the road. The road was narrow, so I had to drive over it, and whatever it was clunked along the bottom of the car. Thing is, the second we got too close to stop, the object came into focus enough for us to see what looked like human facial features. In the car, we argued for a bit about if we should turn around to investigate. As the driver, I made the call to go back to see. After all, there was no way we saw what we thought we saw… right? Upon driving back, the object was gone, but we saw a glinting light in the darkness which seemed to be moving toward us, it was the reflection of our headlights on a machete being carried by a man approaching our car. I quickly put the car in reverse and we got the hell out of there. My friend and I eventually got to the party, but we just kinda sat outside for awhile, completely dumbfounded. We called the police after the shock wore off, they showed up and we gave them our statements. I never heard anything about it again.
Edit: I was on the fence about telling this story, I don’t share it too often because of how extraordinary it sounds, but the handful of upvotes I received feel like a bit of social approval. Thank you!

We weren’t allowed to enter the dorms drunk, our roommate was. Our brilliant plan to sneak her in was to roll her up in a giant carpet and carry her in. Her feet were hanging out the bottom. Our RA saw us and was either dumbfounded or impressed, I couldn’t say.
They just looked at us, looked at the carpet making drunken comments, and looked at the feet, noded and went about their evening.
They never spoke of it to any of us.
2nd incident was my roommate building a full size canoe out of bamboo in our room. I left for the weekend, came back Monday, and there they were. Putting the finishing touches on a bamboo canoe in the middle of our room.

I went to spring break, ended up staying for three weeks, and had to drop my college classes for the semester. I went to spring break with some friends and planned to stay for about a week, just the days we had off of school. Well, I ended up meeting up with some old friends who were going to a different college, they had the following week off of school and asked me to stay to hang out with them. So I did. Then I met some random people who invited me to stay with them the following week and I did. Somewhere in the middle I realized that I was missing a lot of class and probably some tests, so I used the automated phone line to drop all of my classes (this was back in the 90’s, so no way to do this on computer).

I have a water bottle that I fill up with vodka and take with me everywhere I go, even work. During my shifts I’m lowkey sipping on my vodka and I will usually finish the whole thing before I finish work. I have a back up flask incase, but I usually don’t need it.
I actually started doing this back in high school when I was 16. Teachers and fellow students always thought I was drinking water. Nobody suspects a thing because I’ve always got chewing gum, mints and sprays to mask it. Plus the vodka scent isn’t as strong as other alcohol. In my opinion anyway. People think I’m super extroverted and friendly, but really I’m just semi drunk all the time.

I’ve been stealing my roommate’s expensive groceries for months because she swears she’s broke. She’s always asking for extra time to pay her half of the electric bill, but somehow the fridge is full of $12 almond butter, $9 artisan bread, and those fancy glass-bottle sodas…Meanwhile I’m eating the cheapest generic stuff I can find. So I stopped feeling bad and started using her groceries instead, her olive oil, her Greek yogurts, all of it. She’s so scatterbrained she just assumes she ran out and buys more. The truth is, she’s not broke…she’s just bad with money. I’ve seen the endless “payment failed” notifications for streaming services and random subscriptions. On a pub crawl, between pubs, we came across this karate type class that had glass windows and the door was open. My mate in his drunken stupor thought it would be a good idea to run in screaming.
As he did, a man in the class ran across the room and did some Jackie Chan fly kick into his shoulder and they both hit the ground with a huge thud. Meanwhile about 7 of us outside were in pure disbelief in what just went down and didn’t know how to react. It was like something out of a movie. He managed to scramble back out the door and we all ran off laughing so hard.

How a group of girls made an already ostracized guy into the campus “stalker”. There’s a guy at my old college who we’ll call Jim. He was also about 6’4″ and balding at the ripe old age of 24, and in general looks kind of creepy.
There was a group of girls at a party who were extremely drunk and one of them made out with him for about half the night. Of course in the morning she deeply regretted this once she found out everyone knew about it.
Jim then tried to talk to her the next several times he saw her on campus or int he cafeteria. She started saying that he forced himself on her and that he made her kiss him. Of course everyone starts believe her side of the story because friends also started propagating this lie. Before long Jim starts getting known among girls as the campus stalker and that girls should stay away from him.
It absolutely devastated him and tore him up on the inside. When I confronted the girl about it (she lived on my floor) she said that if he didn’t want to be known as a stalker shouldn’t have stalked her. And when I told her that he might be a little confused on if she liked him or not because she spent half a night sucking off his face she said that he should have known it was just a mistake.
tl;dr: girl made out with ugly guy. Guy tried to talk to her the next week and she claimed he was stalking her. Now he is known as the campus stalker.

I was in an art class at a state university in the midwest, assigned to do a perspective drawing of the interior of a building. I chose a crowded study room near the library, found an open seat set to work.
Within minutes, I began to get questioned by a young man who was very, very proud of his physique. “Could you draw me?” “I have only 5% body fat…would you like to draw me undressed sometime?”
He was a persistent pest and it took a long time to get him to leave.
Another student, a young woman, had taken notice of the guy’s odd pick up lines and she came over later to comment about how ridiculous it all was.
It turned into a great conversation and she asked me my name. She looked surprised when I told her. I asked her what hers was. I was surprised.
Turns out we had been good friends as kids until her family moved out of state and we lost touch. We grew up and started to become friends again in a new location without recognizing each other.

My freshman year I lived in a dorm where everyone had their own private bathroom. As a student who came from another part of the world, I was used to having an attachable bidet on my toilet. After a couple weeks of using only toilet paper I gave myself hemorrhoids and got frustrated. I decided to order a $25 bidet from amazon and installed it into my toilet. Soon after I caught my roommate circling our toilet like a confused animal trying to understand how it worked. You activated the bidet by turning a dial numbered 1-5. He soon discovered that if you turned it to 5, the bidet had enough water pressure to shoot a perfect stream to anyone who was within 6 ft. of our bathroom door. A trend of luring people into our room and “bidet blasting” them ensued. Soon enough, my other floormates all installed bidets to their toilets so they could join in the fun as well. People from other dorms learned of the trend and the school had to ban bidets because of how much water damage they caused. I just wanted it clean.
TLDR: Started a bidet blasting fad in my dorm.

I’ve posted this previously:
First week at college, long week but finally it’s Friday. I finally get back from practice to my room (13th floor), and sit down to relax, when all of a sudden the fire alarm goes off, because of course it does. So i grab my stuff, and prepare for the hike down 13 floors worth of of stairs. As I leave my room, I see the door across the hall fly open. Out comes one of the girls from across the hall, except it’s pretty obvious she has been in the shower, and has apparently forgotten to get dressed before leaving the building.

Friend was a volunteer firefighter. We hated our neighbors, so one night after drinking way too much, my buddy walked over and lit a couch on fire that was on the curb in front of their house. After a minute or so it was going pretty good and he put on his gear and ran around the block and over to their yard (at this point several of them had came outside and were awkwardly staring at the blaze unsure of what to do). He proceeded to grill them about why they lit their couch on fire and why hadn’t they tried to put it out yet, though one kid claimed he had seen a van drive by with a flamethrower. They bumbled through all of his questions (we are watching from our porch a few houses down) and asked him how he got there so fast. He told them he was a part of a local neighborhood response unit designed for efficiency
That’s when we heard actual fire sirens coming and realized someone had called the real fire department. He took off down the street the way he came and twenty or so seconds later a real fire engine showed up and we hid inside our house watching and laughing like hyenas.
Probably not the craziest but it’s definitely one of the most entertaining ones.

I got drunk and chased a beer pong/ping pong ball off a second story balcony. Broke both my feet. the next day everyone went to the football game and I had to take a bare foot cab ride to the ER since my feet were too swollen to put on socks/shoes.

Roommate and I woke up hung over in our dorm room to a Kid singing Hotel California in a thick Vietnamese accent while playing it on my guitar he had taken from under my bed. His brother was standing behind him just watching us.

“Friend” of mine loved to run his mouth even though he couldn’t back it up. I got involved in many fights because of this guy and got troubles several times.
Went to a frat party at a different college than our own one night, and this guy ran his mouth to the wrong person. Ended up getting a bottle of goldslogger broken over his head. Drove him to the ER where he got 30 staples put in. Luckily it was in his own car.

I went to a trade school with probably 30 – 50 students at any given time. Our school uniform was a black polo shirt with black pants and black shoes, and it was the one thing they were actually strict on. The school would also host children’s birthday parties and have guest speakers from local businesses every week, so we were expected to be professional around others.
One girl joined the cosmetology program and was completely insane. She believed she was possessed by a demon and would randomly speak in a demonic voice, and managed to do it in front of the guest speakers as well as a bunch of kids during a birthday bash. One day, she showed up to class wearing a swimsuit and nothing else. One of the instructors told her a swimsuit was not the uniform and she fought tooth and nail, saying that it wasn’t a swimsuit because she didn’t swim.
She dropped out not long after.
