Journalist, physician, and digital health expert Bruce Y. Lee described it, and it was exactly what the couple in the story went through. But as he noted, food divorces can differ depending on how they’re implemented.

“It could be a morning cup of coffee, a walk, sitting together before bed, or another predictable ritual each day that preserves the connection between partners,” she said, adding that it should be about the moments that communicate one message either verbally or otherwise: “You’re important to me.”
Meanwhile, Lee also emphasized the potential risk of food divorces in a relationship, especially if they lead to other issues. That’s why he advises making sure other aspects of the relationship are solid before “divorce proceedings.”
“Just make sure any desire or plan for a food divorce is not divorced from the reality of the rest of your relationship,” he said.
It may benefit the couple to have a “food divorce,” as long as this separation won’t affect their marriage as a whole.
