I first discovered 3D jelly cakes 2 years ago. Fascinated by the art, I took a course on it run by a famous 3D jelly art teacher. As I practiced, I also posted my work up on Facebook and Instagram.
One day, a friend requested for me to help him make a 3D jelly cake with roses encapsulated in it for a celebration. Each piece of work can take up to 4 hours to complete. The designs are injected into a clear jelly canvas petal by petal and made upside down! Not long after that, I began to receive more requests from people wanting to purchase my 3D jelly cakes. The feedback that I received was positive. Some receivers even teared with joy when they received the 3D jelly cake. Upon my return to Sydney, I established my own business called Jelly Alchemy.
Unfortunately, in late 2017 I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. I had to put my business on hold as I had to undergo treatment. However, I was determined not to let cancer get in the way from doing what I loved. On the days when I was feeling well, I dedicated my time to create 3D jelly cakes for my team of doctors and carers. During my battle with breast cancer, focusing on creating beautiful 3D jelly cakes helped to shift my focus away from the physical pain and negative thoughts. Moving forward, I hope to find ways to make this a meaningful career so that I can continue dedicating time to gifting this art form to others.
