I’m officially declaring Hannibal the best new show of the 2012/2013 season now that it’s wrapped, and to be honest, it was simply just much higher quality than I ever expected out of a network show, let alone NBC. The show works for a variety of reasons, art direction for one, but mainly because of its two leads, Hannibal Lecter and Will Graham. Lecter in particular is a fantastic character, and Mads Mikkelson’s performance is incredible. He’s eloquent, charming, but also seems like endless rage is simmering just below his skin. On the show, he’s not often prone to (onscreen) fits of violence. Rather his nuances are captured in half smiles or crinkled eyes. This GIF collection will show you what I mean. Some are goofy, some convey pure terror with a simple look.
