Quick Change is all about a bank robber, his girlfriend, and his best friend trying to get out of New York City after he’s robbed a bank dressed as a clown. You would think it would be easy enough since no one can identify them and there’s usually signs leading to the airport, right? Well it seems as though fate and even the city seems to be conspiring against them to make the easy trip to the airport that much harder. Once they finally do make it they have to contend with a zealous police chief who only realizes who they are after their plane has finally taken off.
So they do get away after a very roundabout course through New York City.
10. Bill Murray stated that New Yorkers would really identify with this movie.
He believed that it showed them just how messed up their city could be at times. Strangely this statement was met with more approval than anything.
9. This is the only movie that Murray directed.
After the original director bowed out and no one else could be found he couldn’t make a decision on who to ask so he went ahead and did it himself.
8. Ron Howard was approached to direct the film.
He turned it down on the basis that he didn’t feel that there was a main character that people would be rooting for.
7. A local gang allegedly stole all the filming equipment.
The gang came to Murray offering to be his paid security. When Murray turned them down the film equipment went missing.
6. Bill Murray is given the same watch that he wears in the movie Scrooged.
It’s a very fancy piece, said to retail at around $12,000. It might be just a coincidence that the watch shows up in both movies but with something that expensive it seems like it would be more purposeful.
5. The airplane company that is featured at the end is fictional.
The plane is very real but the company whose logo is on the plane is fictional.
4. The film was made nine years after the book was released.
That’s not too bad really since some books take a lot longer to be transferred over to film if they ever are. And it’s not too short of a time either since some books that come out in film only a couple of years after being published run the risk of being lost in the translation.
3. Randy Quaid played another character named Loomis in The Wraith.
He was a sheriff in The Wraith, which is kind of ironic that he would play a character with the name Loomis in a movie where he’s an accomplice to a bank robber.
2. The idea of robbing the bank dressed as a clown was inspired by a famous bank robber.
The famous bank robber, Willie Sutton, used to rob banks in a variety of costumes.
1. A lot of critics say that this was one of Murray’s best performances.
That’s a very subjective statement honestly but he hasn’t had a lot of bad roles to be honest.
Personally I think Caddyshack or St. Vincent are a little better, but like I said he has no really bad roles.
