Since there have been numerous famous television actors who have appeared on the series as murderers, victims, lawyers, and witnesses, we decided to compile another list for our faithful readers to check out. So here it is. A list of even more television actors that have appeared alongside Mariska Hargitay and Chris Meloni on Law & Order: SVU.
Sara Ramirez from Grey’s Anatomy
Before she began playing Dr. Callie Torres on the hit medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, Sara Ramirez made not one but two appearances on Law & Order: SVU. The first episode that she guest starred on was the fifth episode of the second season entitled “Baby Killer.” Ramirez played the mother of a little boy who has been accused of shooting one of his young classmates. In the season four premiere episode, “Chameleon,” Ramirez played a prostitute that was questioned about a murder of one of her co-workers. Four years later, Ramirez would begin starring on Grey’s Anatomy.
Monica Raymund from Chicago Fire
Monica Raymund currently stars on Chicago Fire, which is another show that is created by Dick Wolf, the brains behind Law & Order: SVU. Raymund appeared in the season nine episode of SVU called “Authority“, which is a “Ripped form the Headlines Episode.” Raymund’s character is assaulted at a fast food restaurant by her manager after a man calls the establishment and orders him to do so. These events were turned into the 2012 film Compliance starring Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23′s Dreama Walker in the role Raymund played on the show.
Robin Williams for The Crazy Ones
Robin Williams, who was most recently seen on television in The Crazy Ones before his passing earlier this year, was also featured in the season nine episode “Authority.” He played an engineer named Merritt Rook, who was the man making the phone call to the restaurant pretending to be a police officer. Williams would receive an Emmy nomination for his work on Law & Order: SVU.
Mischa Barton from The OC
Mischa Barton’s career has not really taken off like she had hoped it would after she exited the FOX soap The OC at the conclusion of its third season. However, Barton was able to make an appearance on Law & Order SVU that she can add to her resume. In the season 11 episode, “Savior,” Barton plays a young pregnant call girl who survived an attack by a religious zealot played by Oz‘s Lee Tergesen.
Ian Somerhalder from The Vampire Diaries
Early on in Ian Somerhalder’s career was when he made his appearance on Law & Order: SVU. In the season four episode entitled, “Dominance,” Somerhalder played a son of a building superintendent that is part of a quadruple homicide that Fin is investigating. Jason Ritter also appeared in this episode as Somerhalder’s character’s brother.
Paul Wesley from The Vampire Diaries
Somerhalder is not the only star of The CW hit The Vampire Diaries to make an appearance on Law & Order: SVU. Paul Wesley made two appearance on the NBC drama in 2000 and 2005. In the season 2 premiere episode entitled, “Wrong is Right,” the SVU team investigate the murder of a man who had a secret life. Wesley played one of the victims that was abused by the man who was burned alive. Wesley returned 5 seasons later to play a young man who is on steroids and attacking his classmates.
Kate Mara from House of Cards
Kate Mara would also make her Law & Order: SVU appearance during the series’ second season. In the episode called “Pixies,” Mara played a gymnast who’s biggest competition was found dead in a dumpster. The investigation leads Benson and Stabler on a trail of many suspects including the girl’s trainer and a benefactor of the gym that may have been having an affair with the young gymnast. It is revealed that Mara’s character murdered the girl because the spot she was promised on the gymnastics team went to her teammate. She decided to get even by murdering her with a brick.
Viola Davis from How to Get Away with Murder
Viola Davis is currently starring on one of the hottest new television shows on the 2014-2015 TV season. The How to Get Away with Murder actress was featured in seven episodes of Law & Order: SVU between 2003 and 2008. She plated a lawyer named Donna Emmett. The case in the first episode Davis starred in was about a baby girl who was found dead in a cooler. Davis’ finale appearance was on the episode, “Retro,” which focused on a case involving AIDS patients.
Natasha Lyonne from Orange is the New Black
Two years before starring on the Netflix hit Orange is the New Black, actress Natasha Lyonne was featured on the Law & Order: SVU season 13 episode “Educated Guess.” Lyonne played Gia, a girl who was assaulted at a psychiatric ward. She denies being attacked and has made up stories about being assaulted in the past. However, Benson and Rollins soon find out that Gia’s mother, played by True Blood‘s Carrie Preston, was protecting her rapist and knew what happened all along.
Pablo Schreiber from Orange is the New Black
Pablo Schreiber was doing double duty when he made several appearances on the 14th and 15th seasons of Law & Order: SVU and starring on Orange is the New Black at the same time. Schreiber played serial rapist William Lewis, who became obsessed with Detective Benson. He played the character in eight episodes. Plus, Schreiber was featured on a 2007 episode of the series. He played a man who kidnapped his biological son. The mother ends up committing suicide after she is blamed for killing the baby.
