Relive the Enchantment of Disney’s Tangled
It’s hard to believe that it’s been eight years since Disney’s enchanting take on the girl with the longest hair in the world graced the big screen. Tangled captured the hearts of audiences worldwide, quickly becoming a classic and inspiring a short film, a prequel movie, and a television series. It all began with the original film, and now, fans of the hit Disney movie can experience one of its most iconic moments in real life.
In every Disney love story, there’s that one magical moment where the characters finally acknowledge their love for each other. For Tangled, it was the breathtaking lantern festival. But did you know that this mesmerizing scene isn’t just an animated moment? You can actually take part in Rapunzel’s fairy tale experience.
Step into Rapunzel’s World at Tokyo’s Miraikan Museum
The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Tokyo, also known as Miraikan, is currently presenting a lantern exhibition inspired by the Disney film. In partnership with the Walt Disney Animation Research Library and teamLab, the Japanese museum’s latest exhibition is part of the larger showcase “The Art of Disney-The Magic of Animation, 90 years.” Museum visitors will have the opportunity to see around 500 of Disney’s original sketches and concept art, and then immerse themselves in their very own Tangled Experience.
What sets this exhibition apart is its interactive nature. As individual groups approach the lanterns, floor sensors directly in front of the lights activate, triggering a brighter shine and spread of light to nearby lanterns. It’s a truly magical experience.

Don’t Miss Your Chance to Experience the Magic
There is, however, a catch. This exhibit is only available for a limited amount of time, ending on September 24, 2017. But don’t worry, if you can’t make it to Japan in time, there’s another way to experience Rapunzel’s dream. The scene was modeled after several lantern festivals held all over the world, most notably those in Southern Asian countries like Pingxi, Thailand.
In North America, the most popular growing festival is the RISE Festival taking place October 6 & 7 outside of Las Vegas. This two-day event will also include a concert, and attendees can write any wish, prayer, or hope they want on environmentally friendly lanterns to be sent off into the sky.
If you’re a fan of the princess with the long blonde hair and sense of adventure, we hope you get to live your Tangled Experience soon.
