Getting to Know the Cast of The Good Fight

In 2016, we saw the end of many things. One of them was popular legal drama The Good Wife, which aired its final episode in May. The CBS show was wildly popular and fans are delighted with the news that a number of its key characters will now be returning in a spinoff called The Good Fight. While producers are staying tight lipped on whether or not lead actress Julianna Margulies is going to appear as heroine of the moment Alicia Florrick, we do know that Christine Baranski is set to bring Diane Lockhart back to the small screen.

And there’s trouble ahead, because the show will start with the senior partner being forced out of her company. Baranski is joined by a cast of new and recurring characters. Eagle eyed viewers will spot some familiar faces. Rose Leslie, for example, played wilding Ygritte in Game of Thrones. Despite this major role, she is relatively new to US television and it will be interesting to see what she brings to the show as a disgraced young lawyer.

Ridley Scott has stayed on as a producer, which may surprise some people considering the grandiosity of his film projects. Yet, the legendary director has never been shy about sharing his love for The Good Wife and its explosive (but very human) scandals. And wasn’t that just the appeal of the original show? It was utterly sensational, but you could never quite shake the feeling that, in some circles, it was also entirely believable.

So, if you’re a big fan, keep reading for an introduction to the cast of new spinoff show The Good Fight.

Christine Baranski

Baranski will reprise her role as Diane Lockhart. She is a partner in the firm Stern, Lockhart and Gardner. However, this will all change in The Good Fight, after she is forced out of the company with her publically disgraced goddaughter Maia.

Baranski is a veteran of stage and screen, who has starred in more than thirty movies and countless TV shows. She won a Tony Award for her work on Broadway, in The Real Thing. Though she is probably most famous for her role as Maryanne Thorpe in the sitcom Cybill.

Rose Leslie

This flame haired Game of Thrones star will appear in The Good Fight as Maia Rindell. She is the goddaughter of Diane Lockhart. She joins the company just before a huge financial scandal breaks. It destroys her reputation and she has to leave to join Lucca Quinn at another law firm.

Rose Leslie will always be Ygritte to many telly fans, but she has also appeared in Downton Abbey, Luther, and Utopia. The actress has only got a handful of film credits to her name, but she is a promising new face. You can expect to see her a lot more often in 2017.

Cush Jumbo

Jumbo hasn’t been around for long. She only joined The Good Wife in the seventh season, as a bar court attorney who befriends Alicia. However, she has a chance to make a lasting impression, because her character is returning in the spinoff. Luca Quinn will become a colleague of Diane and Maia after the scandal breaks.

The actress is not a household name, but she has won a lot of acclaim for her turns on the stage and on television. In 2011, she received an Olivier nomination for her part in an all-female production of Julius Caesar. In 2009, she played Lois Habiba in the popular fantasy drama Torchwood.

Sarah Steele

Sarah Steele will return as the outspoken daughter of campaign strategist Eli Gold. As Marissa Gold, she is sassy, confident, and self-assured. When The Good Fight kicks off, she is working as a secretary for Diane Lockhart. However, she soon discovers a talent for investigating.

Steele is another cast member who is used to treading the boards on Broadway. She has starred in a number of well received plays such as The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and The Country House. Her breakout role was as Bernice in the comedy Spanglish.

Delroy Lindo

The new character played by Delroy Lindo is Adrian Boseman and boy does he sound like an interesting addition. After Lockhart loses her savings and her stake in the company, Boseman swoops in and starts poaching her clients. From the sounds of it, he’s a real slippery figure.

Lindo, on the other hand, is an eminent Tony and SAG nominated actor. He is perhaps best known or appearing in a trio of Spike Lee films; Malcom X, Crookly, and Clockers. In 1997, he played an angel in the comedy movie A Life Less Ordinary.

Bernadette Peters

Peters will star in The Good Fight as matriarch of the powerful Rindell family. She is the mother of Maia Rindell and one half of an influential investment firm. Lenore Rindell is described as a financial whizz kid, who had to fight her way to the top from a tough working class background.

Like Christine Baranski, Peters has appeared in more than thirty movies. They include the Mel Brooks film Silent Movie, the musical Annie, and comedy The Jerk. Her part in the latter was actually written especially for her by Steve Martin.

Paul Guilfoyle

This legendary actor is set to play the second half of powerful husband and wife team the Rindells. He is Henry Rindell, one of the wealthiest, most influential businessmen in Chicago. Fortunately, he has Lenore and their daughter Maia to keep him grounded.

Paul Guilfoyle spent a staggering fourteen years playing Captain Jim Brass on CSI. So, he is a welcome face at CBS and will be making a prodigal return to the network. He has appeared in everything from Ally McBeal to Beverly Hills Cop, The Negotiator, Session 9, LA Confidential, Wall Street, and Mrs Doubtfire.

Justin Bartha

Bartha will appear as series regular Colin Morrello and it looks like he could be a love interest for Lucca Quinn. The two will face each other in the courtroom and it won’t just be the legal arguments that are on fire. Morrello is the new star of the State Attorney’s office, but is a match for Quinn?

You might recognise Justin Bartha from his part in the first Hangover movie, though he doesn’t spend all that much time on screen. Yes, that’s right, he’s the Doug who goes missing and sparks a frantic caper of a search.
