OK this whole reboot thing is starting to get out of hand. Movies are being rebooted at a rate which I can’t even comfortably describe. Now a classic Bill Murray movie What about Bob? is going to be a series on NBC? This can’t be true. I somewhat understand movie reboots as younger generations get to experience the classics in a new way (despite my own personal opposition to it) but certain movies need to be left along. I think What about Bob? constitutes a movie that needs to be left alone. But sure enough, this is legit. According to Joblo
The original movie, which made $64 million domestic, centers around a psychiatrist named Leo (Dreyfuss) who in trying to get rid of his overbearing client, Bob (Bill Murray), but ends up being stuck with him on his family vacation. The show will take on a similar scenario, being about “a psychotherapist who tries to cut ties with her most overbearing patient but is unsuccessful and gains an annoying family member in the process.” No new name for the female lead playing Leo’s role has been announced, nor has anyone been cast. I’m gonna go ahead and guess…Loretta?
This isn’t the first female-led Bill Murray remake either. Remember the Ghostbusters reboot? I personally wasn’t a huge fan of What about Bob? I just thought the movie completely spiraled out of control. Truth be told it probably has a much better shot at a sitcom than being a movie. Still though, I just can’t conceive of any scenario where I’ll be watching this show. This all assuming it exactly comes to fruition.
