Tom Hardy is definitely one of those actors that has continually gotten better with each role. His acting style is sometimes a little hard to understand and a few of his characters are hard to get used to, but that’s the beauty of his talent. He knows how to get people to react in different ways to his roles. That’s the mark of a great actor. One would think that eventually he would get the nod for an Oscar. His more notable roles have been somewhat controversial at times but they have been solid and on point. To expect him to sit around without an Oscar for much longer seems somehow wrong.
So why should Tom Hardy get an Oscar?
He plays very tragic characters that are usually very intense.
If you’ve seen the film Bronson you might have wondered aloud what was wrong with Tom Hardy. He played the role of the UK’s most favorite prisoner with such aplomb that even the real Charlie Bronson seemed to approve. Of course he didn’t play it completely true to form, but Hollywood rarely ever goes completely line for line in a story based on real life. He’s also played the titular role of Mad Max, though many believe that his character might have fallen a bit short of Mel Gibson’s original rendering. What needs to be remembered is that Hardy is his own man and his own actor, which means he will deliver the best he can give. In the films Lawless and Warrior he is less tragic but no less determined in his manner, which makes him a very dangerous person on film.
His characters are eerily believable.
Hardy is one of the few actors that throws himself so far into the role that he actually seems to become the person he is acting. Bronson is a good example as he almost seemed to be in a kind of psychotic state during filming. His mannerisms and his moods even changed at times its been reported, but he pulls up short of pulling anything like Heath Ledger or Jared Leto crazy. His characters are still so vastly different from one another that a few people have actually had to look at the credits of the movie to be certain that it was him and not some other equally talented but somehow different actor. Most of his roles allow him to take on the persona of the character so well that it simply amazes people when they come to truly understand his range.
He’s due for an Oscar.
So many people went on and on about Leonardo DiCaprio getting an Oscar and how it was “his time”. Well, Leo’s had his time and hopefully will have several more in his career. Hardy’s time is now, and he’s collected enough roles in his career and showed such a tremendous amount of range and skill that he should easily be considered next in line if he stays on his current path. His type of talent doesn’t come along very often, and the mere fact that he’s been left out of the conversation for such an esteemed award is kind of strange.
There’s no doubt that Tom Hardy has the acting chops to play virtually any role he sets his mind to. Now it’s time to recognize that he is among the elite in the film industry, and reward him for his great work.
