Somehow the English seem to produce some of the worlds greatest rock bands. Deep Purple started out with a more mellow sound but eventually became one of the pioneers of heavy metal as they became more popular and started to play around with their sound. Since then they have had their ups and downs just like any other band and have even lost members and gained new ones. They’ve been associated with several labels and have performed in many, many places. As of now they are still performing since they had a revival in 1994.
Here are some of the movies and shows in which their music has been so influential.
5. Ash vs. Evil Dead – Space Truckin’
Everyone’s favorite demon-slayer is back in his own show this time as he continues the fight against the dark forces that tried to take him down so many years ago. So he might be a little heavier, a lot less agile, and has put some definite years on his body, but he’s still the man when it comes to taking on the darkness. One just hopes he’s matured a little.
4. Requiem – Anthem
This is kind of an odd film since it focuses a lot on epilepsy but also alludes to demonic possession. The distinct difference between the two is still something that some people would argue is not as easy to discover, especially if an individual didn’t have any recorded medical history of any health or mental issues. Overall it’s kind of odd but still gripping.
3. The Simpsons – Smoke On The Water
In what could be called a fairly controversial episode Homer decides to smoke a joint in his room. He seems to have forgotten that smoke and odors tend to travel. When Marge and the kids get a whiff of the smoke that’s drifting down from upstairs they can also hear Homer singing Smoke On The Water. When they go upstairs Marge quickly confronts Homer.
2. Children of Men – Hush
Children of Men is a rather disturbing look into a dystopian future where there are no more children. Not a single live birth has been recorded for many years, and the youngest man on the planet is regarded as a worldwide celebrity. When he is killed however the startling discovery that a pregnant woman exists becomes big news, as well as a reason for opposing groups to want her for their own ends.
1. My Name Is Earl – Highway Star
The sad part is that I know which clip I wanted to show and that I couldn’t find it for the life of me. But the episode Dad’s Car sees Earl and a local hotshot drag racing when Earl and Randy are still children. After remembering how he lost his father’s car Earl is determined to get it back, but must race for it again. This time however he puts his own car up for grabs. Thanks to Randy he wins the race and the car, only to find out later on that his father meant to work on the car with him when he grew up.
Deep Purple have put out a lot of awesome, well-respected songs, which few people seem to recognize as theirs.
