Team Blake Performs
Coach Blake Shelton sent a message out loud and clear to his country fan viewers. Don’t let the names Aliyah and TSoul fool you. His team is all-country!
“Crippled Inside” is by John Lennon. It’s a perfect vehicle to remind country music fans not to judge a book by its cover. The words take listeners to task, but the fact that John Lennon wrote such a clearly country music genre song does as well. Younger country music fans may not believe that back in the day (1971) a hippy-dippy rock-n-roll guy wrote this gem of a country song!
What also is being made clear: every singer on team Blake seems excited about doing country music – regardless of what genre they started in. Why might that be? Two words: Cassadee Pope. Cassadee wasn’t a country music artist when she came on The Voice, but she absolutely left as one. Besides, as Coach Alicia Keys is always saying – music is universal and what everyone on The Voice wants to do is keep making it!
Guest Performers: Rapper G-Eazy & With Singer Munchie
The Voice doesn’t feature rap as one of its lanes for artists on the show, so for those who love rap music this was an exciting event! I’m sure even those who don’t follow the genre found it an interesting experience to see all that enthusiasm. (G-Eazy & Munchie had the crowd up and dancing! You can see that video here.)
At the very least having G-Eazy on performing the “The Good Life” served as a contrast to all of the older music that’s been featured this season. It’s from the newest installment of the The Fast and the Furious movie franchise – which was made by Universal Pictures. Nice work, Comcast! (They own NBC and Universal.)
The Voice Season 2 Results…from the Auditions On SnapChat?
Okay, I vaguely remember something about this Snapchat thing last season. That winner – AJ Mitchell didn’t win a chance to actually be on The Voice though. This season’s winner, 22-year-old Ignatious Carmouche, will be on next season’s blind auditions!
Of course…it’s not exactly going to be the same thing. Three of the four judges have heard Ignatious sing and will know who he is. Adam in particular should recognize the voice at once. It kind of defeats the whole “blind” part of the audition.
Still, what’s nice about this SnapChat method is that it feels more like they’ve found an undiscovered talent and that the producers are already working with him. (Like, he’s now had his first voice lesson!) Even though the show has always been upfront about the fact that it does promote singers who may have a ton of experience in the industry, it’s become more and more prominent. Even the two teenagers in the top 12 have professional experience! Brenneley Brown has been performing since age 7 – including doing vocal work for Disney & Nickelodeon. She also was on America’s Got Talent last season. Likewise, Aliyah Moulden has worked for Disney and Nickelodeon and has a ton of other experience.
Now, I love watching both of the young ladies on The Voice, just as I’ve enjoyed many other professionals that have been on the show. However, there is something about the idea of a regular person getting a shot that’s very appealing. It feels extra special when someone without any big show business connections and a great voice makes it onto the show. That was a big part of the excitement about Danielle Bradbery during season four. She really was a small town talented 15-year-old.
The Wrap Up – What’s Up for Next Week
During The Voice Season 12 Top 12 Eliminations Stephanie Rice was asked what she was hoping to show viewers if she returned next week. Her answer was that she wanted to “rock out” because she’s done so many emotional and sad songs. I’m totally looking forward to that!
