In the desert, Derek’s driving. He answers the phone and I note the writers this week have remembered that there are supposed to be recognition beeps — hallelujah! He asks where Sarah is and she tells him. ‘Is that a joke?’Not really, the writers weren’t that good this week. But Sarah’s calling to tell him she needs surgery, and hey, has he found that warehouse yet? Derek answers in the negative; clean-up is first, then the Sarah situation. Because she’s Sarah, she has to disagree with his assessment, but he says there’s a few more situations to deal with, too, the next one being Riley. ‘It’s becoming a problem.’Sarah, on behalf of all of us, snits, ‘[It’s] Been a problem.’But Sarah can’t deal with teenage romance; she has bigger problems. She finally admits that there’s a complication with her leg, and Derek says he knows, she called him…twice. Kyle takes her hand as she tries to speak, but can’t. She doesn’t need to.
‘Sarah? Don’t worry about John.’
I had a lot of issues with this episode, but the end of that conversation was perfect. Because if there is any one thing that Sarah and Derek can agree on completely, it’s protecting John. Kudos for giving Derek and Sarah something to bond over that doesn’t involve breaking in or blowing something up. Derek hangs up the phone and there’s a shot of Sarah, alone.
You know, if J.H. keeps playing with these toys, I’m going to start calling his room the playpen. At any rate, Catherine’s come down at his request and he asks her if she knows about the toys’histories. He gives a brief overview that ends abruptly with, ‘You’re not human.’For a machine, she seems shocked at the accusation. Pressed for details, J.H. reveals knows she’s made of metal because…he can’t see anything behind her eyes. Wait, what?! Catherine’s curious to know if he’s shared that information. ‘Why? Should I?’Catherine says no, he should not.
J.H. changes track again, mentioning that his body is made out of Coltan, and hey, he knows where that’s made. Did Catherine know that Zeira Corp owns seven percent of the world’s available reserves? Catherine looks suitably impressed. But wait, there’s more. He’s also been eavesdropping unsecured phone lines and heard something interesting. There are men talking hurriedly, there’s been some kind of breach and they have to shut down. One man’s been shot. The other voice on the line doesn’t want to shut down; he’s got 16 tons of coltan there. Catherine looks very interested, and vaguely upset. She gets up to leave and J.H. asks her what she’s doing. She can’t answer that, except to quote Kevin Costner:
‘Everything I do, I do for you.’
Back in the morgue, Felicia’s telling Sarah what an arthroscope is. She’s going to use it to work on Sarah, but she needs to knock Sarah out to do it. Also, it would be awesome if Sarah let go of the damn gun. Kyle’s frantic, Sarah has to do this or she’ll die, but Sarah says she can’t stop. He tries to tell her, ‘You’re not one of them.’But she sure as hell keeps trying to be, doesn’t she? Sarah tries to explain to Felicia, but the doctor will have none of it. She knows Sarah’s scared, better than Sarah thinks, and if Sarah doesn’t give her the gun, she’s walking. Sarah finally hands it over, and Kyle reassures her, ‘I’m here, I’m watching, I’m always watching.’Ceiling Kyle?
At the other hospital, it’s been discovered that Riley’s missing. The hospital’s locking down and John wants to go looking. Cameron disagrees and walks off. See what I mean? Meanwhile, Jesse’s dragged Riley all the way back to her place, demanding to know what the hell!? While Jesse begins re-bandaging one of Riley’s wrists, Riley tells her about the girl at John’s old school, the one who killed herself (for a mysterious reason the writers never got around to telling us — thanks, writer’s strike). The ‘machine’kept John from saving her and he’s never forgotten it. See, now Jesse’s impressed. Chica slit her wrists so that John would feel like he has to protect her? That’s kinda hardcore. But Riley’s face…doesn’t exactly match up to that, exactly. It’s too vague to make a detrmination about her real motives yet.

**It’s a bit like the plot in porn — you’re watching for other reasons, and this stuff’s just kinda there.**
Hee! I swear people are trying to make me choke to death at my computer this week. Granted, I souldn’t be eating at the computer anyways…
“Everything I do, I do for you.”
The Canadian in me immediately thought “Bryan Adams” :)
Cromartie freaks the f**k out of me anyways, but to see him playing with those toys? That is just wrong. *shudders*
You need to write for this show, Raven. Who do I call to make that happen?
If it makes you feel any better I’ve had the song stuck in my head since I wrote that part.
He’s, like, Damien or something, it’s so creepy – and I’m still trying to figure out what Catherine’s deal is.
