Sad Exits We’ve Seen on Young and the Restless

Young and the Restless fans see people come and go regularly. Some of the characters on this show leave without much fanfare, and others take off leaving a huge hole in the feelings of everyone’s hearts. 2018 brought with it a shocking end to a very lovely character we all loved to hate. She was someone who was kind of awful, kind of amazing, and every bit a fan favorite. She was part of the show for five entire years, and she left in 2018. She left, however, with the saddest and most tragic story to go along with it — and we just cannot even. Mischael Morgan was Hilary, and she was a heartbreaker when she left.

Contract Negotiations

When it was announced in June that she was leaving the show, fans were not happy. She was reportedly in a situation that left her feeling uncomfortable and unhappy, and she didn’t know how to handle it. The show made it seem like there was a problem with her contract. They apparently could not reach any sort of happy medium with her to keep her around, and they decided to part ways when she was done with her fifth year. She stuck around another two months for the most epic story imaginable, and she’s now officially gone. She issued a public statement on her Twitter, and here is what it had to say.

“It is with a heavy heart that I announce my departure from The Young and the Restless. There were many favors that lead to this decision, but ultimately, five years just felt right to me. I feel blessed to have worked with some of the most talented, hardworking, and fun-loving people in television. Thank you to the cast, the crew and everyone at Sony and CBS who made the past five years truly unforgettable. A special thanks to my partner in crime Bryton James, who always brought out the best in both me and Hil. Last but definitely not least, I want to thank all of my amazing fans who have support me on this journey. Your gifts, love and kindness over the years (and days) have warmed by heart and fueled my soul more than you could ever know. Although my adventure as Hilary Curtis is coming to an end, my work on screen is far from over. This may be a goodbye from Hilary, but I’ll just say “see you soon.” Love always, – Mischael”

That seems to be a fairly honest rendition. She said there were numerous factors, and that is probably very true. If they could not reach an agreement, she probably felt she needed to leave. It might also have a little something to do with the fact that her family announced she is having another baby just a few weeks later, and she might want to spend a little more quality time with her growing family. She and her husband already have a little one at home, and a new little one is going to make their family dynamic a bit different. Perhaps the time felt right because of that in addition to so many other factors.

Other Hard Goodbyes

Another hard goodbye for fans was that time that Adam left the show. Justin Hartley was not the original Adam Newman, but he was one the fans loved and wanted to see more of. He’s certainly someone who has been missed to the point that there is always the hopeful rumor he might just change his mind about life and move in to his new life as someone who shows up from the dead. It’s entirely possible, but he has a new job on a hit primetime show, “This is Us” an we cannot imagine him leaving that role behind to come back to his role as Adam. So, that might not happen the way fans want to see it happen. He might make the return, but there is a good chance he simply will not make it at all.

There have been many more that have come and gone and left a little piece of themselves behind, and this is one of those days when we just sit back and remember them fondly for all they did.
