On the surface Rick and Morty is an animated show about a drunk, genius, grandfather who takes his son on crazy adventures around the universe that creates tremendous issues for family back on Earth. Again, this is on the surface. Rick and Morty fans understand that the show is about a hell of a lot more than that. While the show has its fair share of sci-fi bumps along the road, fans are treated to countless pop-culture references, nuances on life, and subtle quips that when recognized make you laugh hysterically. But as series co-creator Dan Harmon will tell us, it’s also about meaning. According to /Film
Harmon sat down for a Rick and Morty featurette where he talks briefly about the bleak outlook that Rick Sanchez has by thinking that nothing he does really matters. Is Rick really any happier because he’s smart enough to realize that all of the things that worry the rest of his family are inconsequential?
