Prince: Jamming with The Muppets and 4 Other TV Appearances

The music industry lost another powerful presence. Prince, the Grammy and Oscar winner, passed away last Thursday at the age of 57. It was recently announced that the singer who brought us such hits as “Purple Rain” and “Little Red Corvette” did not commit suicide, but the real reason Prince died has yet to be determined. Prince leaves behind a long legacy that includes several television appearance over four decades. Here is a look at TV Overmind’s five favorite, one of which includes hanging out with Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the rest of the Muppet crew.

New Girl (2014)

Prince made very few acting appearance during his lifetime, so it was odd when it was announced that he would appear on New Girl, the Zooey Deschanel comedy in 2014 after the Super Bowl. The singer played himself and proved that he had some pretty strong comedic chops. He even took a few moments to educate lovelorn Jess on the meaning of love.

Muppets Tonight (1997)

The Muppets tried to make a comeback in the late 90’s with this sketch comedy show which aired on TGIF from 1996 to 1998. Prince stopped by for the season 2 premiere and belted out “Starfish and Coffee.” He was also able to show his funny side by appearing in other sketches with the Muppet gang.

America Idol (2006)

Back in its hey-day, American Idol was the show to watch. After all, it was the singing competition that brought us such artists as Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. The reality show would welcome popular artists to the stage as well, so Prince decided to stop by for the season five finale. The winner that year would be Taylor Hicks. His performance received a standing ovation from the judges,

Super Bowl XLI (2007)

Prince’s appearance during the 2007 Super Bowl will probably go down as one of the best performance’s at the event. It had been pouring rain all day in Florida and when the producers called Prince to tell them about the weather, he asked if they could provide even more rain. His performance included a powerful version of “Purple Rain.”

Saturday Night Live (2014)

This was not the first time that Prince appeared on the late night sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live, but it may be the most memorable. Chris Rock hosted the episode where the musician was able to perform three segments, when most artists are only given time for two songs. In total, Prince performed for eight epic minutes.
