The Official Jessica Jones Season 2 Trailer Is Kind of Awesome

So far the trailer for Jessica Jones season 2 is looking pretty intense and kind of awesome. As we’ve seen already she’s a booze-swilling angry person that just doesn’t care how people see her and will take problems head on anytime she gets the chance. Considering her definition of ‘head on’ most people would be well-advised to stay out of her way when Jessica is in a bad mood. But that seems to happen so often that it might just be best if people left her alone or walked away when they saw her coming. Following her stint with the Defenders it’s going to be interesting to see how this second season goes.

Jones is the kind of person that works alone and prefers to be alone it would seem but her relationship with Luke Cage seems to indicate that she’s changing that perspective just a bit and allowing at least one person into her life voluntarily even if she doesn’t have the first clue how to act like a decent human being anymore. Whatever was good and kind in her was stripped away and murdered a long time ago and now what’s left is the unfeeling shell that remembers having emotions but uses booze to wash them away more often so that she’s not inconvenienced by them. That seems harsh but it’s a bit of insight into the character that goes a much longer way than trying to say that she’s a teddy bear on the inside with massive insecurity issues. The latter part might be true but the first part sure isn’t.

So far it looks like she’s going right back to her private investigator role and doing the best she can to finally integrate into humanity while dealing with those that irritate her so severely and reminding them just how tough she really is. It was interesting to see her taking on the Iron Fist when the other Defenders were trying to restrain Danny Rand in the first season of the Defenders, and it was even more interesting that she was able to keep herself composed when dealing with the Hand. Between the four of them she’s one of the least skilled in martial arts but when you can hit like a sledgehammer and are more durable than the average human it tends to equal out a bit. The mere fact that any of them survived indicates that there will be another season of the Defenders, but whether their all going to be willing participants again is something that remains to be seen.

Of the four independent Netflix shows Jessica Jones is one that’s really gotten people’s attention and for various reasons. One, she seems more down to earth than the rest of them. She’s not the hero type like Cage, she doesn’t whine and cry nearly as much as Danny Rand about her own sense of purpose, and she’s not nearly as conflicted as Daredevil, who seems to face a moral conundrum with every new episode. She’s just who she is, and that seems to allow a lot more people to relate to her.
