Adam Elliot’s latest animated feature, Memoir of a Snail, has just dropped its first trailer, and it’s already creating significant buzz. With a stellar voice cast led by Sarah Snook, the film has secured distribution deals across several key international territories, just ahead of its worldwide premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
The film is set to have its grand premiere in the main Bonlieu Grande Salle on June 10th. Following this, it will also open Australia’s Melbourne International Film Festival in August, showcasing Elliot’s unique storytelling to a global audience.
World Premiere and International Distribution
Memoir of a Snail has been picked up by various distributors including Bantam in Benelux, Madfer in Spain, Polyfilm in Austria, Angel Film in Denmark, and several others. Notably, Anton and Charades are co-representing sales on the film, eyeing even broader reach as they continue negotiations for Latin America.

A Star-Studded Voice Cast
Leading the voice cast is Sarah Snook, best known for her role as Shiv Roy in HBO’s Succession. She voices Grace, a lonely misfit who hoards snails and forms a unique bond with Pinky, an eccentric elderly woman. The voice cast also includes talents like Kodi Smit-McPhee, Eric Bana, Nick Cave, and Jacki Weaver.
An Insight into Adam Elliot’s Craft
Elliot’s previous works have garnered international acclaim. His feature debut, Mary and Max, not only won numerous awards but also made its mark as the opening night film at Sundance Film Festival in 2009 — the first Australian animated film ever to do so.
Elliot is also celebrated for his Oscar-winning short Harvie Krumpet, which was recognized as one of the top 100 animated films at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. His celebrated style combines poignant storytelling with distinctive stop-motion animation techniques.
A Unique Tale with Broad Appeal
The narrative of Memoir of a Snail explores deep themes through its characters’ unusual friendships and personal struggles. It promises a touching experience that echoes Elliot’s knack for blending humor with heartfelt moments.
This much-awaited animation will be distributed by Madman Films in Australia and by IFC Films in North America. The initial public reception post-trailer drop indicates that it may follow in the successful footsteps of Elliot’s former projects like Uncle, Cousin, Brother, and of course Max and Mary.
