NCIS: Los Angeles Preview: The Final Piece to Callen’s Past

NCIS: Los Angeles

For seven seasons NCIS: Los Angeles Special Agent G Callen has been a man of mystery. It’s not just because he’s former CIA, it’s because up until a few years ago, he had no idea where he came from. Over time he’s learned bits and pieces about his past, and tonight he’ll finally learn the last elusive piece of the puzzle-his name.

In preparation for tonight’s momentous episode, here’s what we know so far about Callen’s past. His father is Russian, his mother Clara is Romanian. His maternal grandfather started a blood feud with a rival Romanian family, the Comescu’s, over crimes they committed during World War II. As a result Callen’s entire family was systematically wiped out. His mother fled with him and his older sister to the United States and became a CIA agent with Hetty as her handler, and his father was imprisoned in the Gulag. Callen’s longtime Russian contact Arkady knew Callen’s father as Konstantin Chernoff, but his real name was Nikita Reznikov. It is theorized that he escaped the Gulag and lived a quiet life outside of Moscow. Earlier this year Callen went to Russia and found his father’s grave, but there is speculation that his father is still alive.

Sometime during Clara’s stint in the CIA she returned to Romania with her children. The Comescu family tracked her down and killed her on the beach not ten feet from where Callen was playing. After their mother died, Callen and his sister returned to the United States and were separated. His sister died in a random accident along the LA River before she reached her teens. When Callen was a young orphan living in Los Angeles his father was secretly keeping an eye on him through Hans Schreiber, a man he helped escape from the Gulag. Hetty was also secretly tracking Callen’s movements. Callen was in 37 foster homes before aging out. When Callen was a teenager he got into some trouble with the law, and at this point Hetty officially introduced herself to him. She set him on the path to join the CIA like his mother, and eventually NCIS under her wing.

Tonight’s episode “Matryoshka, Part 2” picks up where we left off two weeks ago when NCIS agreed to help Arkady’s daughter Anna find her father. They figured out that Arkady is being held prisoner in Russia with an undercover CIA agent, so Callen, Sam and Anna are heading to Russia to break him out. While Arkady is the one in question who needs help, it is Callen who will finally get what he has been searching for.

“Matryoshka, Part 2” — While they’re in Russia, Callen, Sam and Anna (Bar Paly) craft a plan to break Anna’s father and his CIA agent companion out of prison. Also, Special Agent G. Callen finally learns what the “G” in his name stands for, and in Los Angeles, Kensi and Deeks take Eric into the field on an assignment, on part two of a special two-part episode of NCIS: LOS ANGELES.
