Nashville 1.17 “My Heart Would Know” Recap

Nashville ep. 17

When crisis strikes everything changes…well sort of. This week’s episode picks up with Juliette sleeping with Dante as Rayna leaves New York to see her father in the hospital.

Gunnar and Scarlett celebrate her record deal as Deacon sends Stacey home so he can finish the tour. He also gives her a key to his place–looks like this relationship is moving pretty fast! As Stacey leaves Avery arrives as the newest roadie for the tour, which is an interesting addition to say the least.

While Rayna is coping with her father’s heart attack back in Nashville, Juliette is making moves with the tour. She refuses to cancel the last date in New York while Rayna is gone and insists on adding new songs to her own set with the guidance of Dante. Putting so much trust in Dante is sure to come back and hurt Juliette at some point but she clearly doesn’t care.

Back at the hospital, Tandy (Rayna’s sister) is taking charge of the business while trying to make Lamar rest. Watty comes to pay Rayna a visit and make sure her father is doing better but as soon as Lamar sees him he starts yelling and freaks out. Come to find out, Watty was Rayna’s mother’s lover (shocker) and the reason why Lamar was so angry at her all of those years. Poor Lamar, he loved his wife so much and she was going to leave him the night that she got in a car accident and died.

In New York, Avery walks in on Juliette and Dante together and is then fired by Dante (who has no power to do so). Deacon finds out about it and confronts Dante who is on a total power trip and tells him that Avery stays. Meanwhile, Juliette’s mother wants to go home so she can focus on her treatment but Dante won’t leave because of Juliette–very complicated and unprofessional. It quickly becomes apparent to her mother that Juliette is in fact sleeping with Dante and everything becomes tenser between them.

After Juliette yells at Deacon for not understanding her relationship with Dante and not supporting her changes to the night’s performance, Deacon walks out and heads to Nashville to support Rayna…his family!

In Nashville not all is doom and gloom. In fact, Gunnar and Scarlett have a great time out with Will (their new friend) but Gunnar is still not willing to sing or play guitar. After Gunnar puts Scarlett to bed, he goes out with Will and “cheats death.” The two guys drive in front of a train to help Gunnar realize that he isn’t dead so he needs to start living again. Unorthodox yes, but pretty hot all the same!

The crazy stunt works and Gunnar begins writing again the next morning. Scarlett brushes off her hangover and heads to her meeting with Rayna (who doesn’t show) and her new label. They toast to her new contract and everything finally seems to be falling into place!

Back at the hospital, Lamar has another heart attack and Rayna volunteers to stay with him after his surgery so he isn’t alone when he wakes up. As she is napping Deacon (her perfect man) shows up to comfort her–aw! They talk about the old days and the spark between them is so obvious.

After he leaves, Rayna musters up the courage to hold her daddy’s hand as he rests and tell him that she doesn’t blame him for keeping her mother’s past a secret but she wishes he hadn’t punished her for her mothers mistake. It is very heartwarming and as she starts to cry Lamar opens his eyes!

Back on the tour front Juliette sends her mother home alone and decides to make Dante her manager. A terrible idea that will most likely blow up in her face but I will be patiently waiting to see it happen. Deacon then goes back to Stacey but doesn’t tell her about his visit with Rayna–interesting.

In the last part of the episode Tandy discovers why her father had so many calls from Peggy and takes charge. She goes to Teddy (who hasn’t really done anything since their father has been sick) and tells him that Peggy was the leak to the tabloids! A total badass move might I add. I can’t wait to see what Teddy does with this news. Tune in next week for all the drama and music of Nashville.
