If you go to certain neighborhoods or just talk to various people throughout the nation and ask who this band is you might get a blank look followed by a grin that says ‘are you joking?’. Earth, Wind and Fire has been a popular band that has covered a wide swath of styles since the 1970’s when they formed. They took a brief hiatus in 1984 but came back in 1987 and have been performing ever since. The band has gone through a long list of members but have never lost the original sound that made the group something great so long ago. The iconic look and music that they’re responsible for bringing to the industry has been a leading and very pervasive sound within the film and TV industries.
Here are just a few examples of that.
5. Dr. Strange-Shining Star
You might not have expected to see a comic book movie about a doctor that turns into a mystic celebrating with Earth, Wind and Fire, but more and more movies are starting to incorporate some of the classic sounds that are actually relevant considering the time frame in which some of these heroes were born. You’ve got to remember that even the heroes and villains have back stories, and a lot of them are decades old, more than old enough to remember such bands.
4. Barbershop: The Next Cut-September
This isn’t too much of a surprise since Ice Cube has for a long time been a lover of the classic songs that helped to bring a good deal of culture and awareness forward. Plus, Barbershop is the kind of film that you’d expect to hear such classics in along with the newer and more contemporary music. Cube is the kind of guy that likes to mix the old with the new and it creates a great effect.
3. Caddyshack-Boogie Wonderland
Whether he’s really getting into it or just purely acting Rodney Dangerfield was one of the funniest bits of Caddyshack back in its day. His over the top demeanor and his penchant for acting like the carefree, richest guy in the room was absolute comedy gold and despite the fact that most people saw Chevy Chase and Bill Murray as the main stars he was the best supporting actor there.
2. Hitch-Reasons
We all know that Will Smith can sing, but maybe it’s best if he doesn’t try while high on Benadryl. Of course having your face swell up due to food allergies kind of precipitates the need for something that might help calm your system down and allow the swelling to eventually go away, so who really cares that he’s a bit loopy at the time of his little solo number? Yes, I know he’s acting.
1. The Bernie Mac Show-Hearts Afire
It’s always hard to see your favorite stars pass on no matter how it happens. Bernie Mac was one of the funniest guys alive despite the fact that a lot of his characters had a very acerbic and sometimes crass attitude. The man was just funny, that’s all that really mattered.
Earth, Wind and Fire are still performing today and still influencing pop culture with each performance.
