Auli’i Cravalho is returning to voice Moana in the sequel.
The first trailer for the highly anticipated sequel Moana 2 splashed down recently. Initially developed as a series for Disney+, the follow-up to the hit 2016 animated film now gives the ocean explorer a full theatrical release. Set to hit theaters on November 27, the film features return voice performances from Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson as Moana and Maui, respectively.
The trailer showcases the now-older Moana reuniting with Maui on a mission to reconnect her people across the entire ocean
. She meets various oceanic creatures and faces numerous obstacles along the way.

Maui and Moana Reunite
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, who voices Maui in the original Moana film and will return for both the sequel and the live-action film, shared some photos on Instagram. He’s in the studio recording for the new animated film!
A Peek Behind The Scenes
Johnson teased the trailer’s release on social media, sharing a poster for the film featuring Maui’s hook and Moana’s oar stuck in the sand to form the number two. In the background, Moana can be seen blowing on a conch as the sun sets (or perhaps rises?). The ocean is calling her back,

Fresh Faces In The Music Department
Dave Derrick Jr., who served as story director for Strange World and worked in the art department for other Disney films like the original Moana and Encanto, will direct. While Lin-Manuel Miranda won’t return, his collaborators Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa’i will team with Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear to write original songs.
