With several late-night hosts on their summer breaks, Martin Short took the helm of Jimmy Kimmel Live as a guest host. On his debut evening, he quipped, Jimmy isn’t here, but was he ever really? There was always something missing behind his eyes.
Martin Short added that Jimmy needed a break and humorously ranked talk show hosts along with teachers as the most deserving of time off.
No Break from Trump
Short’s political monologue was inevitable. When Guillermo Rodriguez responded to Short’s question about what Kimmel would typically discuss, Rodriguez replied, He would be talking about Donald Trump!
Diving right in, Short joked about Trump’s potential running mates and how Trump’s pick had narrowed to three people—It was four, but OJ died,
Short quipped.
The Usual Suspects
Short humorously categorized the potential picks. Doug Burgum was described as sounding like the most annoying co-worker, while Marco Rubio was labeled as a con artist. Ohio Senator JD Vance topped it off by being someone who once said Trump could be like either Nixon or Hitler.When have you ever said something like that about somebody and then changed your mind?

Delving deeper into Trump news, Short mentioned the former president’s plan to manage expectations by suggesting Joe Biden would be on drugs for their debate. This provided ample material for More jokes about the lengthy process to collect urine samples from men near 80 years old.
Naturally, Short tied in some self-deprecating humor before introducing Steve Martin, his longtime friend and Only Murders in the Building co-star. Their brief stint together contributed significantly to the show’s entertainment value.
The Daily Show Makes Rounds
Over at The Daily Show, Michael Kosta stepped in as guest host. His political monologue also centered around Trump’s jabs at Biden and the idea that drugs might play a part in their next debate.
So how are Republicans going to explain it if a guy they say has jello for brains really does beat Trump?
