It feels like it’s been an eternity since watching Da Ali G Show. Sasha Baron Cohen has come so far since his “humble” beginnings as a cool hip hop interviewer. But before Borat and Bruno, there was Ali G and Baron Cohen was taking interviewing and live humor to a whole new level. In remembering my first experience, I can’t believe that I actually didn’t like Da Ali G show when I first saw it. I really need to hit myself over the hit a few times for that mistake. Baron Cohen was the man back then, plain and simple.
The absurdity and method which he can move around his interviews is brilliant. Whether they’re real or not simply doesn’t matter. It’s a stretch but I really think it’s kind of what Tom Green did with interviews on his show some time ago on MTV. Remember that? Only Ali G is much more intelligent and outsmarts his guys by being dumb. This video above is one of my all-time classic favorites.
It’s called “Ali G visits a farm.” This will make you nostalgic. That is for certain. Can’t believe this video is nearly 10 years old.
