After hearing about writer’s strikes, unforeseen delays and issues that might have derailed the series, Walking Dead fans can rest easy knowing that their favorite show is coming back this October 22nd. What will happen this season though is up in the air as everyone is talking about one scene in particular that seems to indicate that the entire show has been nothing but a long, intensely-detailed dream. Thankfully the creators have seen fit to assure fans that this is not so. It does bring forth a new and unknown dynamic to the show that viewers who have not read the comic might not understand. This is just one thing though that we’ve learned thus far about the show.
Here are five other things we’ve learned about season 8 of The Walking Dead.
Shiva isn’t going to make it.
Fans of the comic book already know that Shiva will eventually go down. It’s been discussed since Shiva’s entrance in season 7 and despite fans’ reactions there seems to be no indication that she’ll be making the cut. For one a CGI-inspired tiger is a huge expense, and for another, her character is simply not feasible to keep around for an extended period of time. It might be cool to have a tiger on your side, but the impracticality of keeping her around until old age just doesn’t feel realistic.
Negan is understandably angry.
His best laid plans have seemingly been shot to hell and now he’s on the defensive despite the amount of soldiers and ammunition he has at his disposal. Negan doesn’t like being backed into a corner anymore than anyone else, and is likely going to come out guns blazing once the allied forces move in to finish his people off. It’s about to get real in a hurry.
There’s an issue between Jesus and Morgan.
Morgan doesn’t just go after people any longer. He usually has a reason for even hinting at an attack and his exploratory jab at Jesus seems more out of irritation and frustration than anything else. So what’s got Morgan so upset? Why would he attack an ally? Throughout the series Morgan has gone through a long and arduous evolution to where he is now. What remains to be seen is just why he would continue to have issues with those he fights alongside.
Negan’s forces are not enough to stop the allies.
As you can see in the trailer they’re already in the compound, moving steadily through the buildings as they seek to scour the place. The only question that remains is whether Negan’s people have fled or baited the allies in as a trap. If you’ve read the comics you might have a good idea of what’s about to happen but as it’s already been seen the creators tend to like switching things up from time to time just to keep people on their toes. This could be the victory that Rick and the others need, or it could be a trap.
The walkers are starting to fade off.
Even in a world where the dead walk and number in the millions there’s bound to come a time when their numbers will wane. There’s nothing to say that we’ve seen any more than a fraction of their real numbers, but on a single continent there’s only so many there could be. It seems as though the walkers, plentiful as they still are, are starting to rot away and fade out, leaving the more human enemies behind to contend with.
