I’m going to try and say that House Hunters is a great show without gagging, but I will gladly say that the memes are even better than the show. Why the gag? If you’ve watched it then you might understand the reason, and it’s simply because the people that come on this show seem to always be the type that either have no real idea of what they want and will continually look at houses with a continual shrug of the shoulders or will actively find something to complain about even if the house is immaculate. Meanwhile, those of us watching it that don’t have a half a million dollar budget or more are looking at the vast number of DIY projects and thinking “I could do that so easily” or “That’s such an easy fix”. People will money don’t seem think the same way, as the money does the thinking for them.
The show has been on since 1999 and at this point it seems safe to state that there are a lot of reruns coming back each time it’s on during the day or night. Each and every home that the prospective buyers are shown has its own charm even if it’s not quite what they’re looking for. Perhaps the most irritating thing about the show is that almost no one ever says “oh this is perfect”. There’s always something to complain about, something that they didn’t want, and something missing that they DID want. I guess when you have a budget that high you’re allowed to be supremely picky.
As the realtor I think I would have given up on a lot of these folks as hopeless causes after about the fifth or sixth house that met all their needs but didn’t have the right paint color or flooring. If they come in at or over their budget then yes, it could be a concern. But if they come in under budget there is so much that could be done with the extra money, and yet onscreen the people never seem to think about that. The cosmetic stuff that can be fixed relatively easy compared to anything structural is something that the buyers can do on their own, and yet that’s never broached except to say that it’s just too much work and they can’t be bothered to do it.
Oh to have such concerns.
Maybe having that kind of money makes a person forget that they have two hands with ten fingers and a working brain. The idea of getting down and actually working on your own home doesn’t seem to appeal to the people that buy homes to keep them empty as they jetset around the world or commute for 12 to 15 hour days at work. That must be awfully nice, to have a home you don’t need to maintain because you won’t be spending that much time there and probably have an HOA and a housekeeper that takes care of everything. One thing I would love to know however is where some of these couples get a budget of half a million or more when it looks like their original house is falling down.
