“Hiding In Time” Comic Book Series Being Developed For TV by MGM

Riding on the success of ‘Fargo’ and ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’, MGM Television has now optioned an exciting new series called ‘Hiding in Time’. This is an Image Comics miniseries series that was created and written by Christopher E; Long. The comics were illustrated by Ryan Winn.

When the comic is adapted into a television series, it is Richard Smith who will pen the script. Smith has previously worked on a number of hit series including ‘White Horse Pictures’ and ‘In Her Name’. Smith is repped by attorney Tanya Mallean and Andrew Wilson from Zero Gravity.

The comic was originally published in 2007 under the ShadowLine Comics label. The storyline is set in the near future and involves time travel. In the comics, the Witness Protection Program adopts a new approach to protecting witnesses as they relocate them to various points in history. The focus is predominantly on witnesses who turn in State Evidence.

One of the main characters is Abraham Smith and he is one of the witnesses who has turned State Evidence. The Witness Protection Program relocates him to a period that is centuries before he was even born. This means that he must adopt an entirely new lifestyle that is very different to the one to which he was accustomed. The safety of Abraham comes into doubt when one of the other witnesses on the program is murdered and this brings a conspiracy to light.

Although the three-part series only had a limited release, it was well received by critics. As a result, Warner Bros. optioned the series in 2008 with the intention of creating a feature film based on the comics.

Now that MGM Television has purchased the rights to adapt the comic into a television series, there are some experienced names on board the project. Christopher E. Long, who created and wrote the comic book series is set to co-executive produce the series and he is repped by attorney Matt Rosen of SGSBC and Archetype.

Working alongside Long in co-executive producer roles are David Miller of Archetype and Ray Miller. Others serving as producers for the series include Andrew Mittman of MGM Television, Lloyd Braun of Whalerock Industries, and David Server and Ray Miller from Archetype.

MGM Television is now hoping that this new series will achieve the same level of success as their previous series. ‘Fargo’ is a black comedy-crime anthology series that was created by Noah Hawley. It was well-received by critics and viewers which led to it receiving multiple award nominations. ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ enjoyed even greater success as this web television series won two Golden Globes and eight Primetime Emmy Awards. This series was created by Bruce Miller and is based on Margaret Atwood’s novel of the same name. It starred Elisabeth Moss and Joseph Fiennes.

As yet, MGM Television has not released any further details about ‘Hiding In Time’. They have not names any actors who will take on roles in the new series of given any information with regards to a release date.
