Guy Goes Bungee Jumping While Playing The Bagpipes Because Why Not?

Because why shouldn’t you play a set of bagpipes while bungee-jumping? This guy does it and in fact he does an awesome job of it as the only time he falters is when he gets to the bottom of the cord and the recoil starts to take effect. That’s extremely impressive since a lot of us would probably drop the bagpipe once the cord started to jerk us up, assuming that any of us knew how to play the bagpipes. The idea of being able to control your breath while upside down like this and keep playing however is nothing short of amazing as the guy keeps on playing even after the expected flub and doesn’t miss a beat.

Scotland the Brave is a very well-known tune as it’s been featured in so many different shows and movies if only for a short period of time that people will no doubt pick up on it immediately. It seems to be one of the most popular bagpipe tunes around but it’s far from being the only one that any experienced player knows. In fact it’s been put up as a contender to become Scotland’s national anthem in the past but lost out to Flower of Scotland, which is a much different tune but is no less powerful. There are so many tunes that can be played on a bagpipe that it boggles the mind really how to play them all and how to differentiate between each tune. And then there’s the obvious challenge of learning to play the pipes at all.

Many who know how would likely caution anyone who wants to play into learning with a chanter first, which is a device similar to the musical recorders that many kids learn with in primary school. However it’s a bit different since there is a wooden reed inside the instrument that vibrates and makes a very different sound. Using this to practice before learning to play the bagpipes is advised since playing the pipes is not just for anyone. The skill it takes is never really shown in movies or even on this clip, other than the fact that the guy is able to hold on and continue the tune as he’s dangling upside down. Playing the bagpipes takes a lot of concentration and honest skill that, like any instrument, comes from hours upon hours of having played. It might seem like something you could pick up over the weekend but nothing could be farther from the truth.

It would be interesting to know just what prompted this musical jump, though quite honestly it could be just something that came to the guy as a compulsion and couldn’t be gotten rid of until he did it. That’s the same reason that a lot people do a lot of stupid things that don’t make a whole lot of sense. Thankfully this doesn’t seem to risky or too foolish. It is unique and innovative though, you’ve got to give the guy that much.
