So by now you think you knew Han Solo, right? The old smuggler with the heart of gold and a Wookie for a friend and bodyguard definitely had everyone’s heart strings ringing when he took a lightsaber to the gut in Episode VII. But how well do you really think that you knew him? Han wasn’t always the good guy after all, even if he wasn’t just pure evil at any given time. He was little more than a smuggler at one point and did anything and everything he could to take care of himself. So it should be easy to assume that Han did some things that weren’t too kosher. Here are just a few.
He joined the Empire.
As a younger man Han Solo did in fact join the Empire. He thought it would be his ticket to a better life and an easier existence. He grew up as little more than a street urchin and wanted something more for his life. So he joined the Empire, but somewhere along the line he found out what it was really about and eventually deserted.
He cheated to get the Millennium Falcon.
The Millennium Falcon was “won” by Han during a game of sabaac earlier when Han and Lando first met. The game was rigged, but who was cheating who was kind of up in the air when it really came down to it. Chewie and Han won a ship, but at the cost of out-cheating another player that was trying to cheat them in the first place.
He was a drug smuggler.
To make ends meet Han and Chewie ran spice for the Hutts and various other employers that would have them. Unfortunately spice in the Star Wars universe is a very illegal substance, almost like heroin or cocaine in ours. He never sold it, never used it, and for all intents and purposes was only the mule. But that’s still bad enough.
He abandoned Princess Leia.
Han has always been a smuggler at heart so to be honest he’s never been completely good. He usually looks out for his own interests and has never really lied about that fact. The trouble is that upon learning of how their son went to the dark side of the Force he up and abandoned Leia rather than face the awful truth.
He was overly aggressive towards Leia.
Back then his advances were considered to be something of a come on as he cornered Leia in a small space in an attempt to express his feelings for her. Nowadays unfortunately it would likely come off as sexual harassment and even assault. Of course the reality that Leia had feelings for him as well would have changed that stance a little, though you couldn’t tell that from her initial body language. Plus, she hurried off pretty quick when C-3PO interrupted.
Han Solo wasn’t a bad guy by any means but he definitely had his moments when he was anything but good.
