Five Things You Didn’t Know about Lena Hall

Lena Hall is an American actress as well as a singer and songwriter. Primarily, she is known for a couple of things, with one being the lead singer of the rock band called The Deafening and the other being her roles on Broadway. However, it is important to note that Hall has been involved with a wide range of projects in a wide range of ways as well.

Here are five things that you may or may not have known about Lena Hall:

Lena Hall Is a Stage Name

Hall was born with the name of Celina Consuela Gabriella Carvajal. She chose Lena Hall for her stage name because it is a shortening of her real name, with Celina becoming Lena and Carvajal becoming Hall. Furthermore, it is interesting to note that Hall learned at some point that Carvajal had been a stage name that her ancestors had adopted as a family name, which helped her accept her own use of a stage name because she felt that her ancestors would have approved of her choice.

Comes From an Artistic Background

Given that Carvajal started out as a stage name, it is perhaps unsurprising to learn that Hall comes from an artistic background. For example, her father was a ballet dancer who went on to become a choreographer as well as the co-director for an annual dance festival in San Francisco. Meanwhile, her mother was a prima ballerina, which is the main female dancer in a ballet company, who has since become a yogi master.

Got Started at a Young Age

Hall started performing at an early age. For proof, look no further than the fact that she got her first big break in 1987 when she would have still been seven at the time. Then, Hall got the chance to perform in front of an audience of 50,000 people gathered at Candlestick Stadium for the purpose of honoring Pope John Paul II, who was visiting the United States for the fourth time at the time. Suffice to say that the performance did a great deal to raise her profile.

Broadway Debut on Cats

In 1999, Hall made her debut on Broadway playing a part in the original production of Cats. To be exact, she played the part of Demeter, who is well-known for unmasking Macavity when he pretended to be Old Deuteronomy, which was helped by her nervousness around said character. After Cats, Hall went on to play a wide range of roles in a wide range of stage productions, with examples ranging from Anytime Annie in 42nd Street to the Daughter of the Ocean in Prometheus Bound.

Her First Lead Role in a Feature Film Was In Becks

Over the course of her career, Hall has had a number of roles in a number of feature films. However, her first lead role was as the titular character in Becks, which was a romantic drama that came out in June of 2017. For those who are curious, Becks is centered around a New York-based musician who moves back in with her mother in the Midwest following a devastating breakup with her girlfriend. The movie won a fair amount of praise from a number of people, not least because it told a familiar story that was nonetheless underrepresented on the movie screen.
