Five Things You Didn’t Know about Bar Rescue

Bar Rescue features world-renowned bar and nightlife expert Jon Taffer giving failing establishments one last shot at success. From 3 Ball Entertainment, Paramount Network’s popular original series follows Taffer as he wields his three decades of experience in the restaurant, bar and nightclub business to help give failing bars nationwide one last chance to transform themselves into profitable businesses.  Here are five things you might not know about the show:

The show has rescued 166 bars since it premiered in 2011

While Jon Taffer has actually visited 168 bars in total for the show, he has had to walk away from two of them without renovating, due to combative and/or negligent owners — although those episodes still aired.

The series is produced by 3 Ball Entertainment

3 Ball Entertainment, the Redondo Beach, CA-based production company behind Animal Planet’s My Cat From Hell, ABC’s Extreme Weight Loss, Hallmark’s Kitten Bowl, Spike’s Catch a Contractor with Adam Carolla, NBC’s The Biggest Loser (first 11 seasons), MTV’s Beauty and the Geek and many other reality television hits, is the same company that produces Bar Rescue for Paramount Network.

Show focuses more on family operated bars in Season 6

In it’s newest season, premiering Sunday, March 11 on Paramount, the show focuses more heavily on family owned and operated businesses, putting a lot on host Jon Taffer’s plate, as he works to manage relationships that often include deep-seated issues that go beyond business. In the Season 6 premiere, a son takes over his failing family business in Nashville, TN, where he battles with his belligerent father, as Taffer steps in to save the bar.

Host Jon Taffer’s first bar management job was at the world famous Troubadour in West Hollywood

Bar Rescue is hosted by Jon Taffer. A world-renowned bar and nightlife expert with roughly 40 years of experience in bar management, Taffer’s first bar management position was at The Troubadour nightclub in West Hollywood. He opened the first bar of his own in 1989. Taffer is a two-time winner of the Bar Operator of the Year award, among other honors, and was one of the first inductees into the Nightclub Hall of Fame.

Special “Back to the Bar” episodes are featured throughout the season

These “where are they now” specials feature bars that the show and Taffer have rescued on previous seasons, as Taffer revisits them to re-inspect their facilities and procedures, and determine if they’ve actually been following his advice — or if they’ve receded back into the same old habits that left their bar in jeopardy in the first place. These specials air intermittently throughout each season, with five different “Back to the Bar” episodes scheduled for Season 6.
