In 2017 seventeen, networks treated us to over 500 scripted TV shows, and they aren’t showing any signs of backing down. In 2018, we expect that they are going to get bolder and bigger in how they tell use shows to tell stories, change production values and use marquee names; anything they can do to capture our attention and keep it. “9-1-1”

The show to be aired on Fox narrates the drama around first responders and the operators who take and route 9-1-1 emergency calls. Among the stars to watch out in this show are Peter Krause, Angela Bassett, and Connie Britton. We expect the show to be full of intrigues, and surprises, and it will premiere on January 3, 2018.

“Black Lightning”

The show aired on the CW taps into the present day social issues such as gang violence and racial tension. That’s what makes it easy for the audience to easily relate to what’s going on in the show. The story revolves around an African American Family, a father, mother, and two daughters. The Father leads in a quest to overcome the above social challenges after he had earlier said he wouldn’t bother resisting them. He argued it’s would be too dangerous to do so. The daughters aren’t taking a back seat either, they are about to realize their special abilities, which they are ready to exploit fully.

“The Chi”

This cabler drama by Lena Waithe explores the new age of tales in southern Chicago. The show revolves around an African-American teenager’s murder case, where both the victim and suspect are accused of murder. In the unconscionable event affects both those in the family’s victim as well as the suspect in equal measure but from different aspects. The tales explores the emotional, psychological, as well as the way society judges the character of an individual through association. Overall, the show shines a light on events that are easily forgotten by society, yet they deeply affect the victim and suspect’s families.

“Castle Rock”

Dietland by AMC, is one of the most timely shows for 2018 if the current obsession with weight loss and beauty is anything to go by. It not only explores the personal beauty culture, but it also blows it up to reveal the fallacy behind it. The show is based on Sarai Walker’s novel about a woman’s life that is turned upside down as she prepares for a weight lose, with helping from two feminist factions with conflicting options. In the end, she starts to rethink on what is really a revolutionary appearance.
