Prison or the zombie apocalypse: which would you choose?  One person who doesn’t have to make that decision is Orange Is the New Black actress Elizabeth Rodriguez, who plays Daya’s mother Aleida Diaz on the Netflix dramedy, as she has been cast in AMC’s upcoming Walking Dead companion series, Fear The Walking Dead.As  EW.com first reported, Rodriguez has been cast in a mysterious role in Fear The Walking Dead, and the show’s producers are keeping any and all details about her character under wraps at this time. One thing we can assume, though, is that Rodriguez’s character most likely joins the show after its first episode, since the pilot for Fear The Walking Dead has already been shot, so don’t expect to see her in the series premiere. In addition to her work on Orange Is the New Black, Rodriguez’s past TV credits include Grimm (she had a recurring role as Agent Chavez last season), Power, and Prime Suspect.Fear The Walking Dead, which has already been given a two-season committment from AMC, will be a prequel to the original Walking Dead series, taking place during the early days of the outbreak in Los Angeles. The show stars Cliff Curtis (Gang Related), Kim Dickens (Deadwood), Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) and Alycia Debnam-Carey (The 100). Its first season will consist of six episodes, the same amount as Season 1 of the original Walking Dead series.Fear The Walking Dead is slated to premiere late this summer on AMC.Photo by Rob Kim/Getty Images Facebook Prev Article Next Article About The Author Chris More from this Author A graduate of Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, where he majored in English and Film, Chris has been writing for TVOvermind for over four years and has written about several different television shows, such as New Girl, Breaking Bad, Glee, and Homeland.
